How many customers you think bought theirs before the price drop are going back to the store with receipt in hand to demand a refund?
I never shop at or go to HD, but I gave them a call. To my surprise they had stove chow. I have never seen them before in my state. Not sure if there any good, but at $269 a ton I'm not interested. Lowes has crap Michigan wood fuels for $5.29 menards got magic spark (aka pro pellet) and american wood fuels (AWF) hard wood for $4.89 TSC pro pellet, indecks hard wood, michigan wood fuels. $239 ton Family farm and home, pro pellet and american pellet soft wood-hardwood mix $225 ton.
They are a decent pellet re bagged Energex ,but at $270 / ton I don't think I'd be interested either .
I just checked the local HD and Lowes websites to see if their pricing has changed but they haven't. The Lowes site gave me a few chuckles, though. Bayou Hardwood Pellets - $6.49/bag. They didn't have a ton price, in fact no ton pricing for any pellets was given. The last time I burned Bayou they were freaking horrible. And then there was this gem in the description for GT's: High BTU's - sawdust produced by local sawmills is always pelletized with in week of being produced yielding higher BTU pellets. I didn't know sawdust degraded in a matter of weeks.
Biggest change is it turns darker rather quickly. But as it ages it does loose caloric value. Just not as fast as they are stating. Saw dust and chips will turn punky faster than cord wood. I wouldn't leave it out for 6 months, But a few weeks isn't going to degrade it enough to drop the BTU value greatly. A few hundred would be a stretch IMHO. And them GT's are pretty dark, Just sayin!!
A friend with connections at Lowes in our area, has mentioned that the pellets are NOT moving as anticipated. The oil pricing seems to be holding, so pellets are not moving. Too bad because this year, I thing they were better prepared. No telling what will happen next year. With oil at $1.89 I don't see much happening to support pellets at anything over $200./ton
