Been freezing rain/drizzle since yesterday and today it's starting to show. Got a call at 1:00 PM that we lost power. Headed home and the house reeked of smoldering pellets. Dragged out the genny that I bought during the last ice storm in '98 and fired it up. Waited a couple of minutes for it to smooth out and plugged in the stove. 3 minutes later the genny shuts down. Restarted, waited, and plugged the stove back in. 30 seconds later the genny shuts down again. Repeated with the same results. At this point I'm thinking low oil cutout, even though I changed it this summer. Pulled the dipstick, and Oh, f***. Milky white and runny as hell. I don't know what got into it, but something did. Finally around 5:30 one of my sons bailed me out with his genny. Took 2 1/2 hours to get the temp from 61 back up to 70.
Eek! I hate ice. Hope everything stays on the good side for ya! We are supposed to get some in the morning, I'll just pull the covers over my head.
Hey subbie...hoping you are back up and running with CMP. I hear savemoney is in the same boat Ice is bad enough but the timing of this storm really sux.
3120 of 3703 customers in Winthrop are currently without power. savemoney still doesn't have any CMP juice on his street.
Milky white in the oil is condensation...water... Most standby generators get the same thing from their weekly 10 minute exercise run... That short run creates condensation... I turned my auto cycle off when I had a Generac generator at our old place after doing the first oil change and seeing milky oil running out..... I would run it for a good 30 minutes every other week... heated the oil up good to get rid of any water from then on..
Stale gas caused mine to die under load one time. Scratched my head for a day or two before I drained 5 gallons of gas and started with new gas.
Could also be gas getting into the wrong spots if your carbeurator is junk..thus is what my oil looked like in a lawnmower after its fifth consecutive oil change and finally the lightbulb went off....I sniffed it and for sure gas.
Keep some Seafoam or StarTron in your fuel,, keeps the gas fine for at least a year... Never fuel issues here in years running either product...
Needle and seat not closing will allow fuel to drain into engine oil.....dirt in seat ....thus stuck float..
Yep stuck float....I am not a carb guy so I rolled it down the street and gave it to my neighbor that fixes this kind of stuff. Told him to fix it and sell it and keep the money. I wasn't using it anymore.
I hear ya! Some of those carbs get so bad from old gas, etc... it's cheaper to just install a new carb. Passages get corroded and they just never run right again...
I'm hoping by draining it and replacing and running for a few minutes then draining again I'll be ok. I plan on calling a Honda small engine dealer and getting some advice first, though.
