I've done the cribbing thing, just can't get used to it. Maybe when I get back on track with the firewood, I'll feel like I have more time to get good at it. Boy, does that ever sound like an excuse.
Every one of the trees I've taken down has been partially rotted. Some worse than others. Can't always tell until I start bucking. Found some mushrooms growing inside one of the trunks.......there was a split in the trunk. Also found a nest of some kind in the same tree. This was a heavy load for the Jeep. I told myself I wasn't going to load this much anymore, but found myself cutting and loading it full. Almost stopped to drop some off before leaving, but changed my mind. The 2nd tree was a 2x trunk, and I had to leave it for next trip. Still have 2 other Reds I took down last trip I need to grab.
I can get almost 1/3 cord every 2 trips. 7-8 more trips and next year's Maple is done, then I'll get back into the Oak...........I hope there's time.
Older Blazers and Broncos have 2x the cargo capacity if that ever comes up. Yep, my old blazer actually held more than my new tahoe.
They're also bigger than the Jeep. I'd need to do some major clearing to get in with one. I'd rather just cut firewood. At least until I get caught back up. I sure do wish my SisIL would get her tractor running, then I could make runs into the woods with that and load up a bigger trailer. That worked well when I had mine over there, but that's a pain to haul back and forth when I need it here. Appreciate all the suggestions. ww, I almost bought a Suburban back in '75. Salesman thought he'd show me what it could do. We got stuck in a field. I didn't buy it.
I was surprised how much wood I got in my grand cherokee the other day. Kind of a pain to load and unload though. Maybe one of those pickaroons would help.
