I have an '09 Ford F-250 XLT, 8' bed (i suggest an 8' bed, think about the need for a truck box in a 6'bed, and losing 2'of space with that installed)) Fuel price is down, but when it goes up (and it will) if I were to look at trucks, I would personally look closly at the new aluminum frame F150. Imho, and I need to research this more, but aluminum is lighter and won't rust and I think its military grade.
I drove 150 miles per day for almost 2 decades. For better or worse, I prefer to be above the level of impact if I could not avoid dumb driver. Never happened but I the extra gas I paid for driving a large vehicle was worth it considering all the bad drivers on the roads.
If you buy Toyota, you get a truck that drives by repair garages more often than the competition. When you decide to trade, you get more trade in value. If I was willing to spend for new, that would be my first choice. If I buy used, I go for the best deal I can find.
Cars and trucks are somewhat status symbols and in the same right useful assets. If you don't have a truck (even a beater POS like me) the justification for a daily driver truck came up over time when my Caddy STS was ready to blow a head gasket(fix more expensive than practical) toyed with the idea of a commuter car and said f-it buy a used truck for 5k more, bought a 2009 Z-71 with 65k for 21k It's so nice running around town and not have to plan if chit will fit in a car
I totally agree with you. Sometimes when I had to go to HD to get some stuff, I always had to borrow a friend's truck, and with all the people that are texting and driving and causing all these accident by me I would feel safer in a truck
I do like the tundra but I think I can get a great deal on an American truck thru a friend from Michigan, I think he's from Bloomfield hills
You can also use a buyer's service. I'm a USAA member. They will find the vehicle you are interested in and chances are for way less then you could have on your own.
Something this here.... manly man truck: http://www.gmc.com/sierra-3500hd-de...InRhYiI6IkFDQ0VTU09SSUVTIiwibW9kYWwiOltdfQ==@
I hate driving distances. Now, I just won't do it. I have a truck, but I am planning on selling it. Only drove it about 10,000 in the past seven years. Now it is rotting out underneath. I'm told I cause that from not using it. My real problem with the truck is that it is too hard for the wife and I to climb in and out of. Now we drive the van most of the time. We still sit high up, and when have lots of cargo space. I get about 24 mph/town and 27 mph/highway.
That's a long way to drive per day! Gooder that you didn't have an accident! I had none either. Went for a few "spins" in the snow once but I was going slower and no biggy. I like driving full size as well. You can save a friggin ton of money buying a low mileage mint used truck and you will never spend close that much more in gas difference.
Ha. Not because you didn't use it. Salt and/or because not built good for winters. I often wonder if they don't build them better because they would sell less that way.
Oh yeah... love my Ram Trucks. Partly because my Dad's a GM retiree and because of this video, really hits me right there...My family is all from the south and a few were farmers: When I first saw this, I nearly lost it, was this close to balling my eyes out.
I speak with a lot of truck owners and look at and listen too their trucks, and ask them how they like them. I am impressed with how quiet the new Cummins Diesel is in the new Rams. But the cost is also impressive!
Sorry NYCountry. I had a couple around the fire and in the rain and I started to feel like a Pirate I guess.?!
Depending on how much wood you want to haul, newer half-tons make pretty comfy commuters. I drive my '13 Chevy 16 miles one way every day. It tows a 7000lb trailer very well and has been seen with everything from firewood to 12" lead-jacketed pipe in the back. 45K will give you nearly unlimited choice in the new half-ton market. Forget about a new diesel 3/4 ton or bigger. Gas 3/4 ton is possible with the lower trim levels. I'm not up on all the newest half-ton body configurations but one bummer when I bought mine was that '14+ Chevy/GMC had the option of a 6.5' bed with a crew cab. I didn't want to spend the $$ on a new truck (got mine barely used 1yo) and I couldn't wait. Cc usually means sub-6' bed which for me was a deal breaker.
