Anyone have any experience with the splits heating/cooling? My first floor is tough to heat. If I keep it warm, the second floor is too hot. Looking for a heat augment solution to keep the 1st floor at a moderate temps. I've thought about putting in a pellet stove and/or a wood stove. Both have complications. Our home has a granite foundation, and the first floor is the level with the granite.
Anyway to configure some engineered convection? A few floor registers cut in, with ducts dropping down to about 6-8" from surface of the first floor? We heat from the basement-> to the main floor(ranch) this way. Comfy basement, comfy main floor.
Afraid not. No basement. Try to envision a walkout basement that faces the street. My dad converted that basement into the kitchen, dinning room and living room. Which sits on a slab. The kitchen and dinning rooms are one big open area. Where there is a granite wall between the dinning room and the living room. There is only a two foot hallway between the dinning room and the living room. Growing up my dad had the oil furnace, oil hot water and wood stove in one flu. Once I bought the house, I stopped using the wood stove on that single flu to bring the house back to code. Unfortunately with the granite exterior walls, my venting solutions are extremely limited or extremely expensive. My thought on the splits is that I'll get supplemental heat along with cooling on the first floor without annoying window AC units. Plus running the lines for a split would be a great deal simpler than running even a pellet stove chimney.
my neighbor down street. is installing 6 a week. Mitsubishi were good BUT not his favorites because of their memory/control panel. when they go there expensive (all electronics made in china go).. I think your smart to put it in! RI, rarely get cold enough for them to lose efficiency (20 below) A/C in summer heat in winter
