THERE ARE PICTURES OF REAL INJURIES IN THIS THREAD. IF THAT TYPE OF THING OFFENDS YOU OR TURNS YOUR STOMACH, PLEASE GO NO FURTHER.......

I just poped my ankle open this weekend and currently in the doctors office. Made me think... I can't be the only klutz.

Current wound is 2.5" laceration that's about to get stitches.

Nothing a band aid couldnt fix! :D

Should have had stitches, it was a good one. Still hurts, but mended pretty decent. Think I'll just cut it off next time, but was afraid I wouldn't technically have a middle finger if I only have 4 fingers.

Mine was just like that, how long did it take to stop hurting? I still can't close my hand all that great. I'm thinking I scraped bone or something by the way it feels. It's been a month or so.

A couple days it was a throbbing. Right on the knuckle sucks, stitches stayed in extra long and when it finally healed the finger never relaxes properly. Tight to this day (which is about a year and change removed.)

    Nice, guys!

I have nice set of Wusthof kitchen knives. I tend to sharpen them any time I wash them in the sink to keep them sharp. The tip of one of the steak knives got stuck in the block before the blade was fully in. Hand slipped and sliced my right pointer pretty dang deep. Didn't hurt and looks like nothing now but you know it's pretty deep when the blood doesn't stop running...

Other than those I haven't been to the ER for a long time!

Has anyone else been annoyed at a 5hr ER visit??? Last time I got stitches at the ER it took 5hrs and cost 5x more than the doctors office!!! I was watching close what the PA was doing this morning and feel pretty confident i can suture myself now... I wouldn't if it was as bad as some of the above pics above but ability to close small 2-4" lacerations would be nice!

Yes. Took lil one to ER on thanksgiving weekend, ear infection and fever spiking. The urgent care had closed for the weekend, so it was a $1500 ear infection instead of a $50 copay, and it took 5 hours :headbang:

    Ugh... That sux!

I try to learn what I can when I go to the doctors office. Seems like we pay gobs of $$$ for stuff we can do ourselves. Scrapes and lacerations seem to fall in that list. Some things require doctors attention or prescriptions which is a given. After 9mo of chemo I prefer to go to a doc office as little as possible.

For those of you reading... My doc office uses "Hibiclens" to clean and sterilize a wound before bandaging. I'm not advocating anything but it's just an observation. $8-$10 gets you 4-8oz on eBay. I figure 2x 4oz size bottles work great to pair with some gauze in the house and shop med kits. Small individually packed iodine packs work good in tandem too. Non-stick gauze pads and sports tape work good to bandage any odd areas where a regular bandaid won't due (see finger pic above), or for higher blood flow. Antibiotic ointment is a must too. I also throw a cheap disposable razor in my med kits b/c a clean, dry, hair free wound site helps adhesion of bandaids and sports tape. Also you won't be ripping hair out later.

Just 2cents from someone frequently injured.

I prepped animals for surgeries a couple decades ago. At that time we used Betadine and rubbing alcohol.

No pics of recent wounds to share... Didn't take one of my wife's finger when she broke a glass while washing dishes either(that was a while ago), nor do I have a pic of the block of cedar getting flung out of the table saw into my lower lip for 4 stitches....
but I definitely keep a good tube of super glue handy, along with the necessary cleaners and bandages.
Y'all be careful! Especially you, Black Dog Chainsaw
