A gift card of some sorts would really do good in keeping his favor great find I posted this after I seen others saying the same my bad But still a great find
And maybe a small ham or something like that. Usually folks who don't like taking things will gladly accept food especially for those holiday situations.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I never give food as a gift. When someone gives me food, especially if it's from a stranger or acquaintance, it usually gets chucked in the garbage or resides in the freezer until I throw it away. I want to be sure that if I give something, it will get used and that's why I'll give him a $50 gift card for tractor supply. 50 bucks for as much wood as I'm willing to cut and haul is a small price to pay. Last haul from today.
Love seeing pictures where rounds are loaded into cars & SUVs! That is true firewood hoarding determination.
Know that you're doing him a huge favor taking the tops! I'd never open my land to a 'free for all' like that! People are going to come through and take what that want and what's easy and leave you the mess! I think some kind of gesture is nice too though, don't get me wrong. I think you have the right idea with the gift card.
Is it all ash? lots of dead deciduous trees for one hillside. Looks like nice place to cut even with the hills. I have neighbor that killed a bunch of his trees from some overzealous burning - after I cleaned up a couple that fell he calls me a couple times a year to drop and take anything dying back in the woodline. When you respect someone's property, clean up the mess and take the wood - you have a wood contact for life. I've never felt gift cards are needed though we do bring them some pumpkin bread around Christmas each year
He told me he's going to grade it all off with a front end loader when everything's gone, that's why he wants the stumps sticking up. Those cutting the wood are benefiting him as well. If left any longer, the trees will become dangerous to anyone walking under them and I think his main concern are his cows. Heck, the trees scare the heck out of me right now. I'm constantly looking up, especially when I'm dropping one. I don't understand why he isn't making everyone sign a release form relieving him of the responsibility for their safety. Speaking of cows, I've never driven in a cow pasture. The only word I can think of to describe it is bumply.
agree, I do hope you pass it on. could be a donation in his name if he won't take anything. But keep trying. I know folks won't ask, but that doesn't mean that aren't grateful for positive acts done for them.
Yes, all ash. It will make it's way to you eventually. It's kind of sickening to see. Everywhere I go, I see entire hillsides speckled with dead ash trees and no way to get to them, even if you know who owns the land. Ash trees grow like weeds around here...grew.
I thought when you posted cow pasture it may have been from the cows themselves - they are quite adept at rubbing and girdling trees.
Yep, they can mess some trees up, unless it's their shade tree. I don't think they go up in the wooded areas that much since there's a lot of multiflora rose up in there.
I'd be happy to have the guy fill my trailer up with some of that messy, but I don't want to push my luck.
If your thinking of hauling any of the honey piles take a look at the pasture for noxious weeds beforehand. You don't want some of those stubborn weeds on your property
