Pulp hooks. They save your back from bending low and gives a piece of wood a nice handle that is much easier on the hands as you aren't gripping a piece of wood. Just don't put it thru your leg.

That is interesting but what I really need is a cant hook. I find it difficult to roll some of the larger logs to finish cutting them with the saw; that may be where I hurt my pectoral muscle because I tried rolling a large log when my friend was here; he offered to help me but I wanted to show I could do it by myself :emb:

There is a farm store in a nearby city, I may try to make it over to them and see if they have one and how much they cost.

Yes, I saw that, about $10 to ship. I am going to check the local shops anyway because there won't be shipping charges; I compare local prices to the total prices of cost + shipping of online.

Yep. A peavey/can't hook is a good tool to have. Don't overlook a prybar if you have one of them. They are pretty handy also. You often can pop a pretty good sized log up onto a block and cut clean thru.

I was going to answer your question but it looks like that's already been done. Your right about the cant hook. I have one of those as well as a timberjack also. I use the cant hook a lot when dealing with big stuff. Look around, talk around and put the word out that your looking for some of these things. I've seen a lot of these tools picked up at garage sales or estate sales.

I picked up a cant hook, definitely overpaid for it on an impulse... but I cannot imagine how I got by without it. The tool is an amazing helper no matter the cost. I hope you get to add one to your arsenal soon, you will love it!

Don't forget sales tax and your time and cost of picking one up.

Craigslist here I come! Maybe that is how I can get my hands on some old, I mean vintage, one and two man hand saws. What a great idea, the want ad sure worked for free logs.
