I voted for #6 but preference is given to times also when there are no BUGS! The time that I avoid any cutting at all is during periods of extended heat and dry as all of my scrounging takes place in logging cut blocks. After March 1st to mid Oct, included in my wood scrounging gear is a pizz Can full of water, a Pulaski and a Shovel! ???
Year round. I get kind of anxious if there is not something around to process, ya never know when you will need a good excuse to get out of the house for a couple of hours. One wife, two daughters, three female cats, two female hounds, even the turtles are female, or so I'm told, Oliver the hound is male, but he's fixed so that doesn't count.
Woodwidow = female(wife) , Shadow = female, Rascal= male fixed and Cricket = female. It's just more fun to get out of the house with all of them, even when it's not a firewood scrounge!

No - the oxen in my avatar were my Grandmother's, but I think it would be a lot of fun to work a team in the woods. I couldn't give them the attention they deserve year-round, so haven't tried. We just have beef cows. Here's a couple of pics from last year... Mostly thinning poll-sized (keeping the thread secondary theme going!) Red Maple, and some larger Ash and Black Cherry. The area where these logs are in the photo is now stacks covered with tin, and this year I skid to another spot. Previous owner extracted a lot of gravel from here, so I've leveled it off a bit and do all the processing here, away from the wife's domain. The few cord stacked, in the background, are intended to be sugaring wood this spring.
I feel your pain Dave! I have 3 daughters and 2 sons, a fishtank with lots of both and 3 female cats.. Ray
I've suggested to the females that they might enjoy helping, the female hounds are the only takers. Beautiful spot, is that fresh or salt? Looks a lot like around here, mountains are a bit bigger though.
http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/nimpkish-lake-bc.1761/ I started a new thread about the lake.
Year round here as well. No need to create more work if I can keep a steady flow of processed wood flowing
Ok, for everyone that didn't know you could make multiple choices, I checked off all the boxes before voting.
Reminds me of something that my Flying Instructor told me! And it goes something like this! That a Monkey can consistently score 40 % on a multiple choice test! So to gain your pilot's license, you only had to be 20% smarter than the Monkey!
