Are there any signs in your area?
Do Woolly Bear Caterpillars Forecast Winter Weather?
According to legend, the wider that middle brown section is (i.e., the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter. But is it true?

Seen a few of those the last few days. What's a "normal" width?
    I need a point of reference.:headbang:

The longer the brown in the middle, the easier the winter.

Yep, I get that. I found info about the # of segments.
The ones I saw had pretty wide brown bands, so I say we're getting an easier winter.

From last year, your wooly bugger......Woolly Bear? | Firewood Hoarders Club

We had a ton of snow along with record cold.

This summer, hotter later, with this chilly air now, its taken the squirrels off guard. They usually build there nests with leaves that have already fallen. But the past 2 days here, they are biting off twigs with bunches of live leaves and making their nests. Ive never seen it done like this before. The higher the nest, the deeper the snow expected.

I'd really like another low snow year with enough cold to really freeze the swamp up.

Those are the rich squirrels, that live in actual human houses, usually attics. For the middle income squirrels, they live in trees, and low income squirrels, well, they build their own nests, thus also predicting the winter.

Last year, our wooly bears had ZERO brown in them. The other day, I spotted another all black wooly bear.
    Gonna be c-c-c-cold!

I've known a lot of folks (many years ago at least) that swore by them. Most folks swear at them and say hogwash. I really don't care one way or the other.
