Glad It wasn't worse and thanks for sharing the picture and your story. I wear them most of the time but not always.
Don't forget the proper footwear. I can't tell you how many times I've seen pictures of guys proudly holding their saws while wearing sneakers. another accident waiting to happen.
Never wore them, but you really got me thinking. Does anyone have a recommended brand and seller? Greg
I bought my pair from our local stihl/husky dealer. Chainsaw Protective Clothing - Chainsaw Protective Wrap-Around Chaps
Glad all you got was a 'flesh wound'. Hope you have a quick recovery with no complications. I got off easy on the chaps lesson. Long time ago a I was brushing up and small stump or tree ran down the bar and took the chain right off the tip. The chain whipped around my leg, pulling a few threads on my jeans. Watching that was enough to teach me.
Glad it wasn't worse and thanks for posting....always a good reminder especially with the cutting likely soon to be picking up. A good friend bought me a pair of Husqvarna chaps and said wear them which I almost always do. The one time I got in a hurry and forgot to put them on as I only had an hours daylight left the saw grazed my jeans and put 2 holes in the jeans but never touched my leg. It was the "almost always reminder" I needed. Let me say this loud too......WEAR EYE PROTECTION ALWAYS
Wow glad your ok woodrat! I take my safety fairly serious and am happy I changed in that department and have for the most part always had chaps. Its the first thing I tell friends and family to get after purchasing a saw, it only take a fraction of a second to end up badly hurt. Hope the healing goes well and quickly for you.
Sorry for your injury Woodrat, but glad it wasn't worse. I started wearing chaps last year. Don't beat yourself up over it. I think of some of the close calls that I've had while cutting wood and hanging treestands and know that I am lucky to be alive. Some days there is a very fine line between making it home, or not. ( I'm not sure how close you were to your femoral artery, but cutting through it is a likely death sentence.) Learn from your mistakes and give thanks upstairs. Heal quickly and enjoy your new chaps.
treestuff.com if pretty good site for all arborist gear and they have good pricing for the limited things I have purchased (including chaps.) I wear mine all the time. Have a buddy who is former EMT and a fireman/ captain.... I've watched him tighten his saw chain while it was running . Practice safety at work as well as home/ in the woodlot!
I'm so sorry to hear this. I had a chain come off and slap my leg above the knee this summer. Nothing like this. I agree...let's all try and wear our chaps. The 3/4 chaps at bailey's are under $30 if I remember right.
Yep. I bought chaps at Bailey's. I'm buying all my stuff thru Tree Stuff since mid 2014. Located in Indianapolis...I get my orders either the next day or 2 days later. Great prices
I was cutting yesterday without my chaps on. Today I will be wearing them. Thanks for the reminder and I hope your leg recovers quickly.
Thanks for the reminder. All to easy to take short cut's ( no pun intended ) being men as we are. "Keep your stick on the ice"
Woodrat1276, I forgot to mention in my last post that if you have a Menards store near you, they have them on sale quite frequently. I got my last set there for $30.00 and they mailed them to the door.
Thanks for trying to use your bad luck to remind us all what can happen. Hope you're feeling better soon.
