Noticed that they are still cutting hay around here. I think the warm temps have helped with that. The average killing frost is the end of this month. This year, it may be longer

2 more inexpensive future projects found recently - from the top selling & respected ''10 Series'' of mid sized saws.First a 5-10 from July 1966 to February 1967 & the first one in the series - a 1-10 from May 1965 to September 1967.Both are 54cc/3.3 cubic inch & have several parts that interchange but also some different features.Need a good cleaning, new fuel lines/filters,likely a carb rebuild & other minor fixes. They both have very good compression.

Got the tractor fired up yesterday. Still a long way to go but nice to know it can move under its own power.

Here is what was hiding on the other side. A trailer mounted forwarder, they seem to call them short-wood skidders around here.

This sucker needs a LOT of work. It is a home brew unit built from a three point back hoe attachment. The more I look at it, the more I think I will end up building my own frame from the ground up. It is set up with a walking beam axle. I am torn between leaving it that way or going to a road legal tandem. I also am contemplating converting to a goose neck. As is, it puts quite a load on the back of my f150, I think a goose neck would be much more use able with the truck and still can use it with a goose neck - three point adapter on the tractor. If I go the goose neck tandem axle route it will be new trailer time, no point in trying to salvage what is there if I am making that radical of a change.

Putting a winch on my utility trailer today so I can pull heavier logs into it. Right now I have to cut everything in small enouph pieces to lift by myself. I think it will save some time and wear and tear on me.

A gooseneck will be better handling for an F150.

Did you ever pull the cylinder off the 395?

Good idea. I may look into that. Get a decent size HF winch.

But often times I can't get the trailer to logs

That is why I use my utility trailer. It is small enouph that I can get it into some tight places but it will carry a decent load. I believe between my truck and small trailer I can get a full cord in one trip. That will cut down how many times I go to the mountains by half. I have a car trailer also but it is to big for up in the mountains.

The winch I got was the HF 5000 pound. Small and light weight but still enouph pull to get some decent logs into the trailer. I have also been known to drag a few trees out after limbing and cut to length with my truck so that it can be bucked up and loaded.

The trailers I have are a 4x8 utility trailer and a 6.5x16 dove tail car hauler.

I will laid the small one up with rounds piled as high as can get without rolling out. And use straps to hold down. Between the short bed ranger (with toolbox) and this trailer I think I can get 3/4 cord. Between the short bed K10 and that trailer I know I can get a cord if I load it up!

I may seriously look into this. The trailer is pretty heavy duty for its size. Not crazy heavy but enough. It has 12" tires and not those skinny 5.10x12 tires many that size have.

The utility trailer I have is 5' x 8' and it has steel sides that go up about 30 inches. Even though it is a single axle it has full size trailer tires and I believed it is rated for a 1/2 ton.

Yeah it was pretty chewed up. Lower was okay though. I have it somewhere around here, will gave to post pics. The upper was dry but the lower didn't get hot. Thank fully I was running good synthetic mix prior to it getting straight gased.

I probably will get a meteor cylinder and piston then see if I can get someone to do a woods port for me. I hear most builders have a long waiting list. Work has been so crazy this summer I haven't had time to mess with it.

It might be salvageable and get by with only a piston.

A few guys get less busy in winter when the real jobs aren't going wide open.

Cleaned up quite nicely.....Will start on the mechanical stuff in a couple weeks.

The 1-10 needed a better fuel cap & the 5-10 clutch cover was missing the chain adjustment screw, pin & nut so I robbed those parts from a beat up rough looking 7-10 sitting in the corner all by its lonesome....

That tree looks past is prime for farwood, unfortunately. Maybe there some decent stuff for outside fire pit use?

Ya, when it died I didn't have the balls to drop it. There is a little bit of firewood in it. Trunk was hollow to where the saw is.

Gave the 34T Huskee splitter a tune up. Changed hydro fluid & filter, motor oil plus we put a new plug in it. Should be good for another couple years!
