    My parents have a steel version of that. Takes a car battery. But it saves your back.



    My parents are looking at Harmon's. Good stoves from what I hear.

    I hear Harman stoves are so well liked they have a following. Which model are they looking at? Also, there is usually a $100 coupon on the corp website if you sign up for it (via email).

    Yeah, I know about the coupon. Quadrafire has it too, as they are owned by the same company.


    I'll stop in my a couple stores next week. They need about a 42000 btu unit.

    Maybe I'll see if they can bundle an insert for me, with a pellet stove for my parents.

    The Harman P series can't be beat. One of the easiest stoves to clean. The heat output is great. I'm very happy with mine starting my 7th winter.

    My Eco-65 is perfect for me. Might be too big for your parents though. I run it like a stove (not ducted). It's not picky on pellets, easy to dump ashpan and scrape pot and has an xl hopper. Deep cleans are PITA, but I would guess all stoves are.

    And you can get an extension so it can hold somewhere around 90# (+/-, I don't remember exact number)

    the only issue with the extension hopper is that it adds height to the hopper, possibly making it more difficult to fill for an older person.......

    I know I wouldn't want to try filling my stove with a hopper extension on it. My 72 lb. hopper is more than enough anyway.

    I have an extension on my P61a and have a 2-step stool next to the stove for easy filling. The stove is sitting on cinder blocks, so that doesn't help. I am only 5'6" and the fist couple of months I had the P61a I didn't have a stool and it was challenging to fill the hopper (mainly because my aim sucks when the bag is on my shoulders ;)). God has blessed me with good joints and a strong back (knock on wood), so the step stool works well for me.

    The P43 is shorter than the P61, and mine is only setting on 2" bricks instead of cinder blocks. I am unsure how tall the extension is, but it seems that I should be okay without using a step stool. I'll have to report back on that later as I have one on order. Of course what works for me doesn't necessarily work for others, so it is good we have options.

    Looking back, the Avalon Astoria I had some years back was a really good stove. Never had to fix anything, had tube-type heat exchanger, easy to clean, and a 120lb. hopper w/o any extender.....regular height, easy to fill. I loved going 2-3 days sometimes w/o any fill.

    If they are planning on running the stove 24/7 I would highly recommend going with a unit that has a bigger hopper than 50lbs.
