My nut happened to be a free poulan 3400. I stopped by our local small engine shop (that my buddies dad owns) to pick up a part for a mower at work. I noticed an old dusty poulan sittin on a shelf in the back and asked what was up with it. He said "that old thing?, you can have it. Been here so long I can't remember what it was here for." He wiped off the dusty old tag and it looks like someone wrote "n/g burned up". I offered him a few bucks but he insisted I take it. After work I checked the comp and it was 130 so it was definitely not burnt up. I drained the old gas, added some high test and she fired off after a dozen or so pulls. A little fine tuning on the carb, a good cleaning and she runs like new! First pic is before I cleaned the years of dust build up.
You'll have fun with that one. Incredible torque for a 56cc saw,you wont find a newer Stihl Farm Boss or Husky Rancher that'll out cut that beast....Its not the same plastic homeowner box store toy Poulan you see today... Dad bought his new in May 1981,first saw I ever used.Between the 2 of us that saw cut over 150 cord in the next 20 years or so.Was basically ''retired'' around 2002,where it sat until 2011.I found another decent 3400 on Feebay as a future parts source,rebuilt the carb,new fuel/impulse lines/filter etc on Dad's old saw & its been in use again since 2012.Still very strong runner,pulls 20"/full comp like nobody's business. If Dad is around when I fire it up,its worth it to see that big grin on his face......
It's definitely a bad little 56cc saw. After a quick sharpening I did some more tuning at the log pile on a 14" white oak. It cut cookies like butta! My dad's an old school poulan and homie guy so I left the saw near the door to my shop and texted him saying there was a surprise for him in there. He was grinning from ear to ear when he saw it and gave it a pull. Fired right up
