The weather outside is el stinko so decided to get the final servicing done on the 30. Had given it a good cleaning and vaccuming in the spring. After 3 burn seasons of 24/7, the gasket on the door was getting tired. The door got a good cleaning and installed a new door gasket and glass gasket. Now officially ready for burn season............................

How are the baffle boards holding up after 3 seasons? I'm thinking about getting an extra set of them, just in case.

I'm doing the same, shooting for the spring sales. She asked me why I thought we needed a new stove, when the old one heats so well. I said it will burn less wood, little response. And smoke less - now THAT she is keen on.

I got 2 years out of the first set. Will probably need another set next year.

I got two years out of the original boards also.

I bought replacement fiberboard here instead of from Englander.

You have to cut it yourself and I think you can get three boards out of that sheet, so you end up with an extra, and you can cut the boards to fit tightly to avoid the gap that the factory boards leave. Shipping is crazy, but it still ends up cheaper. The replacement boards are wearing fine.

Thanks, I'll have to get one soon. Mine look like they easily have another season on them, but there's always a chance I'll whack one of them and break it with the rake or something.

    Nice find Dave. Bookmarked.
Will a normal utility knife make the cut?
I've only run the 30 for about 1.5 wrs and the boards are fine, other than a few small nicks early in the learning curve.:D

One thing I want to do to the thirty before I start using it is remove the ash plug, cover the hole and replace it with a firebrick. I don't use the ash pan and the plug just gets in the way when I rake or shovel.

Just grind off the steel loop no need for any replacement brick. 4 years on the original boards, they are fine yet although i do have a least one broken brick in the back wall.

I wanted to leave it as is, in case I ever did want to use it, but I guess I could always weld a ring back onto it. Definitely the easiest solution. Shouldn't take more than about 20 minutes with a sawzall and angle grinder.

On second thought, the plug is cast so it probably wouldn't hold a weld very well, but still probably the best solution.

I don't really find the plug to be much of a nuisance, to be honest.
I just checked ESW site to see if they offer a replacement plug......not on the site.

    Yep, utility knife, easy cut.

My boards would have lasted longer than two years if I hadnta dropped one while cleaning:picard:

loop really isn't that much trouble to go around with shovel, Course I am not an ultra neat freak as far as getting every last spec of ash out, Plus unit works better with a small layer of ash on bottom ( also stated as such in manual- but who reads those anyway- against the man card code I believe)

Well, full disclosure.....I broke a small piece of one corner off of one of the boards last year when I was cleaning.:picard:
I leave some ash in too, but the stove runs well no matter what.

My rake gets caught on the plug ring a lot. I usually clean all of the ashes out of the stove too and the plug gets in the way of that.

I have a small corner missing off one of my boards, don't remember how it happened. I just keep that corner up front and it's not big deal.

Zip wheel on a angle grinder made short order of the loop. Never use the ash dump anyway.
