Just picked up a Mosin Nagant at Gander Mtn. 1938 manufacture, Tula arsenal. How can you go wrong for $129 + tax?? Even comes with bayonet, Oil/Solvent Can, Muzzle Protector, Jag, 2 part handle assembly, and Tool (Screwdriver). Ordered a spam can of Russian ammo (440 rnds) too. Not a bad rifle, but I've heard your shoulder takes a beating.

Nice, I have shot quite a few of them and didn't think the recoil was that bad. Lots of people around here were buying them when the were running that deal at the local gun shop.
Just started looking it over in more detail. From what I can read, the finish is shellac, although not well done. But, I think I'll resist the urge to strip and linseed oil it. I did my Garands, and they look gorgeous and that's the original arsenal finish, but this is fine the way it is. Just need to remove the gun from the stock & clean everything....that cosmoline gets in every nook & cranny. Plan on getting a nice, used sling that also has the Tula star stamp on it, and some Rusky stripper clips.
OK, this is getting out of hand....LOL. I found a stock that has the screw-in sling sleeves, which are correct for my 1938 model gun. Also, the Tula star sling, correct sq. oil can, and 3 or 4 other correct Tula star stamped parts are all being shipped. Got the gun all dissembled last weekend, soaked all the metal parts in mineral spirits to dissolve the cosmoline, and re-assembled with a light coat of gun oil on everything. Bolt works very slick. Got the spam can of ammo....what a pain in the butt to get opened!! But the rounds are in like-new condition. Pics coming in the future when she's all done up with new parts & stock.
Well, all the parts that I could find that are correct(Tula star stamp) for this gun are in, including a correct stock. I'm keeping eyes open for more, but she's pretty much all correct. Even got the sling w/ the Tula stamp. The holidays are here, family is around, so cleaning everything, oiling, and re-assemble is on hold until the new year. Happy holidays everyone!
Mosin Nagants are nice old guns, I had several different models of Russian ones, plus a Finnish M39 and a "Westinghouse" one, interesting bit of history there! I eventually sold them all, as well as a small hoard of 7.62 x 54 (had some nice NORMA soft point hunting stuff in there too!). Traded various cals of old ammo for most of the Stihls I have. Now the one I really regret having sold is the WWII Tokarev SVT-40 (with sniper scope rails) I once had ....................... One of those cheap import gems from back in the "old" days. That was a nice 7.62 x 54 Russian shooter. Enjoy that old piece of history and Happy Holidays to you too!
I was just looking through of few boxed ones at the gun show and there it was. Cash for the divorce settlement on the property/etc and lawyer necessitated their liquidation at the time . Figured I could always buy them again some day as common as they were then ..... yeah right! Had to let them all go except for one that I just had to keep. That was the tack driving Husky M38 Swedish Mauser, my deer rifle now.
The tin at gander cost more than the rifle. There also selling of the crates that they all came in. Sadly when I was a kid, these same rifles were 50 beans at the gun shows. damm Inflation ; )
They have gone up in tj last 10 years o so! They don't really have much recoil, the gun is so heavy. Its around a 308 or 30 06. I have a beater M44 that I bought in college at a hunting store for $45 plus tax.
