What a refreshing morning in NC today. Ready to fire up the stove but not quite yet. Nice cutting and splitting weather for next years wood.

Back in the 80's for a few days again before cooling into the 70's this weekend. Those are high temps. No fire yet.

Good to hear it is cooling off way down there. We've certainly enjoyed it up here. Today it warmed up though and will stay warm for a few days then cooler again. Hunting season is getting close too!

Cut a load of Hickory and Oak last night after work. Got to try out my MS260. Nice little saw, beats the heck out on my MS290. MS290 is backup now. Cleaning up a Lake Lot, nice breeze with great access, 2 hrs to cut and load after my day job.

The 290 weighs quite a bit more. Also the 260 cuts quite a bit faster. I have an 18" bar on the 260 and a 20" bar on the 290. It may not be a fair comparison, but when I switched between saws the 290 was slowing down and the chain even stopped a couple times while cutting on the tree (same diameter) where the 260 blew right though. I had just sharpened and adjusted both chains. The 260 seems to have more raw power. I was cutting 16" Oak & Hickory so neither blade was buried at the tip but the 20" bar may provide a little more drag. Both have Stihl .325" pitch chains with the yellow link (full chisel). I am going to switch bars between the two and see if the 290 cuts better. I'm about ready to put the 290 on CL so I may not have it long enough for the comparison. Gonna get another 260 or maybe a 361.

Bow season has already opened in my area last Saturday. Gonna try and fit in an evening hunt if I can get home early enough today. Got these two bucks on my trail cam.

We had 84 for a high today, it looks like we can hold off on the burning until the end of September, maybe!

That water bowl looks like a salt block holder to me. I have one just like it.

You have me interested now lol. I won't get rid of my 290's though. One was my very first saw that I bought and the other was my dads that he gave me when he quit cutting.

They both run great and cut great and I've taken good care of them. In all honesty if I did which I won't sell them they would make a good starter saw for someone

But with that said I have a 441 cm and well it just eats wood however it's not a limbing saw lol I think a 260 since you mentioned a little less weight would be good for my tired shoulders. I think I'm going to check the specs after posting this. I don't know if I should thank you or cuss you lol you have me wanting a new saw I was trying to ignore that urge

Thanks for posting this as I too had thought about a 260. The 290 can handle a 20" bar but does better with an 18" or even a 16" is better yet. Because of the weight and the fact that I have a terrible back, I got a really small saw for doing the limbs but also thought about replacing the 290 with a 260. If you do sell, how old is that saw and what do you feel it is worth? I ask because I may sell ours too.

It's a newer 290 but I am not sure how old. I would guess 5 years old. I bought it last year from a home owner that barely used it. If you want it I am going to sell it without the bar, I would like to keep it to swap onto the 260. I would sell it for $200 plus shipping. If you are interested I will send you some pictures. It is stone stock with no mods and I only used Stihl Synthetic 2 Stroke oil in it. It starts easy with no issues. However I think a 260 would be better for you, more power and quite a bit light. I have not had a chance to do the comparison yet but I will post my review when I get something to say.

The 260 w/ 18" Bar is a great little saw. I was able to cut and load this Oak and Hickory in 2 hrs (about a cord). Of course after that I had to stop for some cold beer at this place.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear but I just wanted an idea of what you thought the saw was worth so that if I do sell our 290 I'd have something for an asking price. I agree, the 260 should be the better saw.
