We supposedly have them in southern Ontario. The only poisonous snake in the province.........or so they say.

Well, the snakes sightings in the area seem to be continuing.
Nothing as exciting as the one in the bike but...
2 days after the bike incident I was out getting some wood that was cut down by the power co. along the neighbors driveway.
Last winter the bark was peeling off this tree, so I was picking at it and checking it out. It had a small vine going up the side...yes...poison ivy...didn't realize what I did at the time, but I got a dose of poison in the middle of the winter...
Now the tree is laying down, so I work my way in cutting the trunk up, about 8 cuts. Set the saw down, grab a stick to peel the loose bark off and poke it in under the bark and give it a flip...a small snake come racing out and down into the sticks and grass under the log. I tried to give it a stomp but couldn't get it in time. finish breaking the loose bark off and pick the log up and put it into the trailer. grab my stick again and poke it under the bark on the next log...another small snake comes racing out and down into the grass and sticks...:headbang: Good Grief !!! so now I'm tip toeing through the job...few more logs i have a trailer full and quit for the day.

Last week, out front, another small snake while I'm weed eating next to the creek.

Neighbor stops over couple days ago. He says "you hear a little girl screaming earlier?"
What? no. He was cleaning leaves out around his pool pump , went to grab a little stick and it moved...said he ran away screaming like a little girl...

Today ,out mowing, a snake takes off through the grass. I back up at first to get a look then realized it was about 2' long and copper colored with brown stripes. Don't know my snakes, but its dead now. Got it with the mower:hair:

About 2 years ago I walk out into the kitchen and see something odd on the window. There is a snake looking in through the screen at me.

Probably the same one that was on my bike

Ugh, Hate snakes. I know they have a place, I just don't want their place and mine to be the same place. It was a learning thing for me to be able to leave them alone. We just have harmless grass snakes, and the dogs do a fair job keeping them away from where I walk.

I don't really like the snakes, but I usually would leave them alone. I expect to see them near the creek.
    I've had enough for now.

If you could have got that guy to coil up around the radio antenna (assuming there is one) and ride to the local biker bar with ya's, you could have been their new supreme leader! or at least got free drinks all night!
If that is a Rat snake (I dunno) then as much as I don't like snakes...I'd just shoo 'em off into the weeds. They are better than a starved alley cat at keepin the vermin population knocked down. And the mrs REALLY doesn't like the vermins in her house, sooo...

No big cats here either but when I was out walking in winter snow on my field I found some cat paw prints about 20 feet off to one side of a fresh deer trail and moving in the same direction. Those paw prints were about 3 inches + in diameter. When I told a long time farmer resident of the state about it he was not surprised. He said they call them painters around here.

I don't really mind snakes, I used to "rescue" them from my mom when I was a kid and she'd find them in the barn and I'd let the loose by our pond. But I don't think I'd want to be surprised by one on a bike either!

My thing is spiders. I was riding with a group a couple years ago and after about 30 minutes felt something crawling around my ear. I kept telling myself that it was just an ant or something and waited for another 30 minutes until we reached our normal stopping point. And I found an ugly little 8 legged creature still crawling around in there! Luckily he didn't bite me, as sometimes those things leave marks that last for weeks!

I used to handle rat snakes as a volunteer for a local park, they're not too aggressive and are very good to have around your property ! :dex:

If you like mice and rats then Kill the snakes around your property, but then don't complain about your wiring in your vehicles being stripped by rodents!

He went up there to get warm probably.. I have pulled pool pump apart twice to get grass snakes out of it shorting it out! :hair:

I am no expert on Maine but I have seen timber rattles at 3000 feet on Killington ski mountain! But there aren't poisonous snakes here either!:picard:

This has cost me hundreds of dollars. I've had to replace 3 car computers and the wire harnesses. I don't bother the snakes. I also don't set out poison bait. What I didn't know was that the car insurance covered the cost of the last computer. Wish I had known this before. I think I am going to need to set out some traps and maybe try one of those water buckets with the spinning baited can on the top. This vid is painful to watch because the kid can't get the coat hanger in the right place.

I dont like them but i've never killed them either...till one made a home in my bike. Then I killed three in 2 days.
Haven't seen any since. We see snake skins all the time, but usually don't see many snakes.

this is a 4' wide window about 2' above the old car port roof. I didn't kill him when he was looking in through the kitchen window screen at me. On the bike is different!

Lately we have been seeing rattlesnakes in the area. Nothing close to the house, but within a couple miles. I've never heard so many rattlesnake stories in all my life. I saw one for the first time in my life. About 4-5 miles from here. Seems everyone is seeing them around here. There was even a fatal bite in Benezett, Pa. a couple months ago. First fatal in 25 years in Pa. And thats where we are heading for the weekend...ugh. Definitely taking the Governor with me

Wow Tim. First time seeing this post. I don't mind snakes one bit, but that sucks...

I'm taking a guess. Mice love to nest in vehicle airboxes. I bet there have been mice crawling on that bike and the snake smelled it. TurboDiesel did you ever find a mice nest in/on it? Even if one were eating something somewhere, Snakey McSnakerson could have been following the aroma of it's next meal. ;)
