There used to be vid's on youtube of people making them. But they don't burn all that like wood pellets do. I would only recommend trying them if you have a multifuel stove with the correct vent as well. Grass(timothy grass-AKA hay) pellets are also popular. There is a guy in NY making them. imacman, schoondog and I all tried them.
MWP=main wood pellets? We also have a MWP, michigan wood pellets. So far I have seen,pro pellet,American pellet, index hard wood, Michigan wood fuel, American wood fuel, Kirtland,Isabella. I really don't have a pellet store around. There are a few with in 2 hour drive, they carry sets,golden fire,awf soft, Uncle jeds, marth. I was able to find Greenways last year locally.
Test burned 1 bag last December '14 (had bought 2, threw the other bag out / will go to pellet hell..), had to spend the entire day cleaning the stove out. It was ugly. Green flecks noticed on very close examination, looked like plastic.. Learned later this was probably from one of the last batches, before they idled their plants / sold the business. Was in Walmart the other day in Keene, NH - guess what I saw for sale again.. Ran from that aisle, quickly.
That's a small town. And one of the low tax towns too. Been meaning to try and snowmobile that area, since ive heard it has a bit of elevation, and can get some enhanced snows.
I burned a few bags of those my rookie season , before I started hanging out with many of you here at that other place an got educated , they were made local . I don't remember how they burned . I got a bad batch of Cheat River one time other than that the Harman eats what ever goes in the hopper and makes heat , the biggest difference in my case is the amt of ash different brands create . Stoves are different ,set ups are different so what may be junk for one maybe awesome to somebody else.
Yup, we're lucky to be here. Only 21 years, but we're no longer 'just visiting', according to the locals. . re: enhanced snows, you got that right.. Looks like another great year here, all migratory wildlife bugged out early, deer were starting to show winter coat 2 weeks ago. Maybe they know something.. Pellet stove's ready to rock 'n roll, time to tune-up the oil furnace. Or drink beer. Forecast calls for 80+ weather next week, and I'll be tuning up the generator and snowblower for winter fun. (At least it will be warm this time.) Never burned anything in my Harman that I would say was horrible or didn't put out good heat.. that said, Not a big fan of BBS ashy stuff so I stay clear [unless the get in PL's or Blazers]..
I'll second that vote. Even though I dislike them, I buy a couple bags every year to see if they've gotten any better. Each year they live up to my expectations. Some other ones I've tried that I didn't care for were Vulcan's, and the Inferno of the upper Midwest, AKA Wood Fibers Inc. I'll never forget the screws I found in my burn pot when I was burning those.
