Went to dump the grass clippings at the city yard waste site and found these 2 loads! Oak, ash, and elm. Should come out to about a 1/3 of a cord or a little more. Found out the city is having some trees removed as well so we'll see what the tree service dumps..... They like to keep the good btu hardwoods and sell them in log lengths. And leave the lesser woods which aren't worth the work being I'm 3+ years ahead already.
Good catch there, like pennies from heaven. Even better, you didn't have to deal with tops and brush.
My guess was a little off. Ended up with almost a half cord all split and stacked! Forgot a photo but not bad for a half days work huh? I'm hoping to cash in on the tree service drops. This stuff is way easier than getting the stuff in the woods!!! I may be making nightly runs and see what happens!
I've been doing tree service wood for the past year. The pros: some can deliver it to you, if your drop-off location is faster/more convenient than their original plan. It's often big wood and you can get a couple of cords in one load. The cons: it's often big wood. You might need a big saw. It's often backyard trees that contain metal or is loaded with knots. When they deliver they're not going to take lots of time to carefully place it this way and that - they want it off the truck and they're gone.
