That is not an elm, not quite sure what it is, but it definitely is not elm. Elm is stringy and this causes it to be tough to split by hand. I do see some softwoods in your stack, definitely a conifer by what I can tell. Your stacks are looking good though; it's all about getting ahead.
Actually, at a second look that may be red elm. Not as stringy and actually a better firewood, but the grain is still odd for an elm. The red elm I've cut and split is still a little twisted, definitely not a straight grained tree.
My vote remains elm, of some sort, I'm not sure if it's something about this area but the elm around here when split, especially when you split it all day the whole wood pile smells like pizzz, my dad calls it pizz elm, Idk about the actual name of it
So, over on the American Meteror Society site, over 20 other people saw the same fireball as me and reported it. It was also captured by a camera on the Wahington Monument! It appears the fireball was over WV, and people close to me also described it the same as me, a cracking blue green fireball. Apparently, another fireball was also witnessed a half hour before the one I saw. Pretty cool!
