Nothing wrong with a 5020AV for 10 cords/year. If I was buying new/refurb, I'd get one in a heartbeat. I would richen H-L screws. Those stratos are tuned too lean from the factory.

    Done.

I have a couple of years on mine so far without problem (other than of my own doing). At this point it owes me nothing, but I expect a few more years out of it. I would not object to replacing it with one of those sub $150 refurbs found often on ebay when needed. Or upgrading if the opportunity presents itself. But first a stove upgrade

What makes this saw "lackluster"? Have you ever run one?

I have one too. I like it. And I do know better. My brother runs Stihls and I have used those and a Dolmar, also several other of the "good" brands. Of my 4 saws the most I paid for any of them was $60 and I don't feel I am missing anything...especially for the money difference. I have 3 of the smaller 18" poulan pros and a 5020. $50 for the 5020 and one of the 18"s (refurbished from a "surplus" store) $20 off CL for one of the 18"s, only used a couple times, guy said it was locked up...chain brake was on. And then $60 for another 18", didn't get as good of a deal on that one though...the bar oil pump didn't work ($15 repair) Meh, can't complain, $180 in 4 saws that have cut at least 50 cords for me relatively trouble free.. :) :) :)

The fact it says craftsman. This from a guy that runs or watches saws run everyday, every week of the year. While never running one of those saws, I owned a craftsman once. It was enough for me. I just gave a guy a newly rebuilt MS 250 that had a craftsman saw. He would tell you the same. Actually, I think most anyone will tell you the same. I don't know who makes/made them. I don't care really. I do know who makes quality saws though.

If it is what you like, take no offense. If you want to run it instead a saw from people who make work saws for a living, by all means. I don't. And, said the same. Which isn't a crime since asked by the OP what our thoughts were. God Bless

Seems wrong to judge a product based solely on a name and especially if you have zero experience with it. This is a professional grade tool that was made when Amercan saws still ruled the woods. If I worshiped a god I suspect he/she/it would want me to be more open minded. Probably best that I put you on ignore so I don't waste my time and bandwidth trying to reason with you.

Poulan made it. That saw is a viable option for a dedicated firewooder on a budget. You can still get standard parts and parts saws are pretty easy to find for very little money. I own a Poulan 3400 which is the little brother to that saw in green. Same frame smaller displacement and I enjoy running it. Oh and I have about $40 in it.

Guildo, I don't recall seeing anywhere in the opening post asking what I thought, as long as you agreed. If you like it, USE IT!!!!!!!!!! What part of this are you having problems understanding? :headbang: I don't have to agree with you or have your approval to say what was asked by the Original Poster. I don;t even remember who that was. If it was you, don't ask a question if you don't want an answer. It is that simple

I have run and owned my share of Poulan's, Homelite's, Craftsman, McCullough's, Stihl's, Makita's, and Husqvarna. I don't want or have to run that saw. If you do, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I have zero problems with the saw you or anyone else wants to run. I saved for, traded stuff for, and have flat lucked into mine and have no earthly reason to want to run a 25-30 year old chainsaw that was built by anyone. I got no problems with those that do. I'll even help them if they live close.

Do you understand this? Do you see what I am saying? :hair:

    God Bless you men.

My goodness men. What about this is too hard for you to understand. Read my first post, my second post, and my third post. If you can't get what I'm saying, please return and read them again.

For everyone's information here, I have cut firewood with a lot of saws that didn't say Stihl or Husqvarna. For probably as many years as anyone here. I have zero problems with what you choose. Allow me the same.

So, a Stihl homeowner clamshell sitting in a plastic chassis saw is so much better than a Poulan/Craftsman saw of the same design?

As much as I love debate.. This thread is headed in the wrong direction.

And 30 years ago those old Poulans/Craftsman (and several other rebagded names) ruled the roost for many.

Having owned a bunch of garbage saws and a bunch of nice saws my conclusion is this.. If it gets the job done that it was need for? It's perfect, in my opinion :)

That is all... Have a good night ;)

And this Poulan 3450 will eat every MS 290 in its path. I sold it this past spring, but it was a great running 50 cc pro class saw.

I would much rather cut with a Craftsman 3.7 than a Stihl 025. I have owned and run both, but only the 3.7's now remain. I think I have 6 variants, 3 red ones, 2 gray ones and a 3700.

Many old poulans are way better than those 025/250 even some 029/290!

I spy the top and medium size box from HF!!! I have all three of them. Great tool box for the price. Only problem is that its too small!

Should of got the larger red one.

The bottom of that HF box is not in the pic. I separated them.. I also have a large top Craftsman box (ball bearing) and two of these small boxes the wife got me last year.

I'd rather have several small boxes in numerous spots, than one big box in one spot :)
