Some of the IS owners experimented with using softwoods along with hardwoods in the reloads to help the coal beds from getting too high. The IS burns so well that the coal beds were staying longer but it was sacraficing heat and space.

Can one of you tell me if the 19" side clearance is from the legs or the firebox itself?

This thread is way too long to try to read thru and find much specific info.

My manual says side of stove to wall 19". The arrow in the picture shows the side of the stove as the outside of the leg shield (with the medallion) as the outside of the stove. I believe this figure is for combustable and non combustable clearances.

While the stove is only an inch or two bigger than my other finalist, that 19" ctc makes it a whole lot wider than that.

Congratulations! Looking forward to some more pics of the sides and front and of course when it's finished being installed. From the pic you posted, it looks like the maple leaf you chose is the artwork my wife submitted but I'm not entirely sure just yet. No matter, I like it...

The top one is my side medallion and the second one is my center burner. I'm not so sure it's the same artwork. Nonetheless, I like them both.

Thanks, Yup corner install that's my side..:DI believe that is somebody's artwork from a photograph of a bridge in Bridgewater Vermont, my mom family in that area. If not it's close I have been on that Bridge.. Mountain kind of looks like Mt. Mansfield where we got married in Stowe. VT.

love you foliage red.. Kind of thinking that for daughter to do.. It's a family meaning gift that has a purpose keeps us warm. We all just got out of pool. Daughter says to me.. "Now we got Woodstove in I miss sitting around it on lazy days of winter summer is so busy! "

How did everyones stove look when you cleaned it after season? The probe is 18 in up from stove top. I got approx 9 cups of black sand out of it. This was the entire seasons worth no mid season cleaning.

I'd say you did alright if the buildup residue was powdery and sandlike. I had something similar from my cleanout last year. I have my sweep scheduled for the first week in October, I'll know about mine then.

I got this new chimny tool, soot eater. It's basically a weed wacker for your electric drill. Uses the same heavy string as a weed wacker and it expands due to cintrificul force. Works awsome.

I think I would do one extra cleaning in between just to be safe...But that is only my opinion....
