i haven't had a saw for decades before getting the echo cs600 and haven't sharpened a chain for as long. the granberg bar mount looked perfectly fine but i took a chance on the little husky jig. well i've sharpened the chain a half dozen or better times and have only just gotten very comfortable with the jig. it's pretty stupid, i will admit, but you have to get the small feel of the way the left and right of the jig settle into the chain body. i was clueless in the beginning and sometimes had a good low purchase on getting a file to the right spot of the tooth and sometimes it was just an average type of shot. this last time i sharpened it yesterday morning the concept fully gelled. in addition to seating the jig forward of the cutter, you have to rock the back down, if necessary, and sometimes there's small friction where it half catches against a chain link. if you play with it observantly you will soon develop a feel. then yesterday i had sharpened the chain plenty and checked the raker depth with a straightedge and they needed done so i took a chance on using the raker part of the husky. it is just as cool and sharpens the raker on a slant with no need to round over the front. i sharpened a few with the included flat file, and then put a few drops of oil on the bottom of the file and did the rest. the oil really helps keep the file from getting beat up, and gets wiped every number of teeth on a paper towel. insofar as cutter length goes eye judgment takes me pretty far. i don't think to get a perfect sharpening or one as precise as a bar mounted jig, but the chain gets dead sharp, the saw throws nice chips, and has no large tendency to pull to the side. so far no problems either running or sharpening chisel chain. i figured in the beginning it would be easier to keep after semi chisel and changed my mind because of all the good reports with chisel. you have to keep after the chain like you're taking care of a baby, which is the way things should be. then the thing will cut.
Is this the Husky Roller Guide that you are talking about? I have one for .375 and .325 chain, like em alot.
ronaldo, yeah. they're pretty cool with the rollers set on the small incline angle and only needing to take a small amount of care with the tooth angle.
