Believe me Ray I can swear with the best of them:emb: I understand completely! That's why I have two saws now. Though I may be ok at felling I am not good by any means so its good insurance to take a long.

But if you buy 10 as Mike suggested? Then that's $520! Enough to buy a nice Jonsered 2253 and still buy dinner ;)

I want to buy this saw but have no welder available to mod the muffler which I feel needs to be done.. Can't see paying another $20.00 for another muffler for a $50.00 saw either.. Oh well..

Just remove the muffler and drill a 1/2" or 5/" hole straight through it. Muff mod done!

I will try and get mine welded (the one I blew a hole in) and will send it to you if you'd like? May take me awhile to get it welded though.

These things have been known to blow from 170-210 psi. . They are built well and easy to work on. For the price? Hard to beat for a truck saw, second saw, or limber.

I just ordered the semi chisel Oregon chain for mine. A good chain will make a junk saw cut decent. The single best mod you can do is run a sharp chain.

I don't weld but I'm going to try brazing it back together. Silver solder might work too.

I used high a JB weld stick on my old PP4620avx and it worked fantastic. Opened it gutted it stuck it back together dried it over night and it was hard as a rock the next day. It stayed stuck together for 3 years after that before I got rid of it.

By the time I'm done with this 45cc Quake, I will have a fair amount into it (muff, chain, tungsten, diamond, and carbide bits I bought. Those will be used for many saws though). Plus my time porting, polishing, and talking to Randy (which BTW, I am not proud to admit I will needa new cylinder for my 036 Pro! :(:zip: My theory on port matching was wrong:whistle:)

It's all for good fun. Plus, if I didn't spend it on these saws? I prob would have bought 2 saws on another site that I have been eyeing? So in a sense, they have saved me some money. ;)

Plenty of pics as well.Ray look at the as thread. There is a pic a dozen pages from the end or so, keeps getting reposted by the guy of the mod. But basically pull muffler and drill through from cylinder side all the way through including the cover.Several guys on there ported them some even claim it to be their "go to " saw for most stuff even rhough they have stihls and husky. Many of the questions you ask and worries are covered there. As well as much stuff were posting is actually from. AS. Plenty of pics as well. Skip toward the end there is a lot of good stuff there as many guys have had then over a year now.

Do you need carbide bits to drill the cat?

Yes. A regular bit will be destroyed. Can drill through the front plate and rear baffle. But Cat is pretty hard.

I drilled the cat out of my echo with a 1/2" drill bit then used a chainsaw file on a drill to clean it out. Ruined a good $2 file but it cleaned that baby right out.

Mine did just fine. It was a cheap titanium bit from Home Depot.
