OK, it's not high end, but it has been on my wish list for a while. I picked up a used Hi-Point C9 tonight that probably hadn't been shot 10 times. I put 100 rounds through it tonight, it shot flawlessly as long as I didn't load more than 8 rounds in the magazine. I'm leaving the magazine fully loaded for a few days to hopefully solve that problem. I was surprised with how accurate the gun is, it put out some pretty tight groups! This is going to be my garage gun, so any suggestions on how to keep it from rusting too much, other than a light coat of oil?
Trewax. My Ruger 10/22 misfed a lot until I washed the magazine with soap and water per the instruction manual. It's smooth as the Fonz now. Ayyyy!
I was actually staring at my chain wax for a few minutes last night, I might give it a try. For now it just has a light coat of Remoil. I'm not planning on putting it in a can, it's sitting in an I-beam that runs through the ceiling of my garage. I laid it on a paper towel that also has a light coat of oil on it. But I want to have quick access to it but leave it fairly hidden.
Does your 9 have made in Mansfield Ohio on it? The owner of HP used to live parallel road of me about 20 years ago. Dont know if so anymore.
I'll have to check, I didn't notice it, but I normally don't look for that stuff anyway. But part of the reason I wanted it is because it is made here in Ohio. No, despite being called a "compact" it's too big, heavy, and clunky for a concealed carry gun IMO. I would leave it in a glove box in a car though. If you're interested in a cheap concealed carry gun, check out the SCCY CPX-2. They're also made in the USA, and while being more expensive than a Hi-point, I've seen them for $160-180 used in gun shops and they're around $250 new. Reliability is supposed to still be great, and they supposedly have excellent customer service if anything ever goes wrong.
These may help; http://www.cosmolinedirect.com/cosmoline-weathershed-industrial-grade-spray/ Best option here, even states used by gun collectors: http://www.cosmolinedirect.com/cosmoline-quick-dry-rust-veto-a2/ I have some of their products, including the Rustveto. Looks like a good line.
Personally, I think that any handgun that would make a great concealed carry gun, makes a poor first handgun. A newb to handguns really should have something that's almost full sized so he/she can start developing good habits. The small grip, short barrel length, and light weight of a decent concealed carry handgun all make it harder to shoot well, as well as less fun to shoot in general.
He's not going to go the conceal carry route anyway, sounds like it will be for plinking and night-stand duty.
I see you finally got your C9! Haha you better have some big pants! Like Bass said its pretty big and clunky. Also the standard mag is 8 rounds and there is the optional 10 shown in his with grip extension. To get 10 in it is a struggle! But the point is that if you get a double stack gun the same size you will have way more shots in the same size gun. I own one.and no..unless I could not get to all my other guns and I was going into an area I wanted to carry would be the only time I would carry it.
Ha, I've got big pants! I carry a full size 24/7 with 51 rounds (three 17 round mags). But since he's not going to get a permit I withdraw my question.
Yup, it took awhile to find one at a price I was willing to pay. It's amazing how many people out there think that their used guns are worth more than you can buy one new!
Or there only like $50 off a $500 gun??? They will show wear and everything g and they still want 95% of new price!
