Fired the beast up last night and tonight. Only had a few pieces in and kept it to around 400F but man it felt good to be burning!!!
Thanks troop, It only seems to know one way of heating and that's balls to to wall!! With just a few pieces in the other night I had it cruising at 450-500F before bed and still had coals and a 100F stove in the morning!
Looks awesome! Had the first fire of the season this last weekend and the first fire ever in my new stove! I think I'm going to love it! (hearth built is almost done too, I put a granite mantle on it the other day, just need to trim it out and it'll be good to go. I'll post pics when its done to prove it)
Thanks Machria, Its two granite slabs (i couldn't get it in the house any other way) mortared to the concrete floor. It took four of us to carry the first one in, and 3 of us on the second one. The fist one was ruble from a local quarry that I cut down a bit about 3 inches thick, the second one i couldn't find a good piece in the ruble so I had it cut, its only 2 inches thick. I also put a slab on the top of the hearth as a mantle, but haven't gotten it to sit the way I want yet. Soon as I do I'll post pics. The stoves an englander NC 30, not a SBI, I was looking at a drolet HT2000 (i believe an SBI) but the HD near me had this stove left over this summer and wanted it outta there for cheap money. I love it so far! Woods nice and seasoned so that is helping me out.
53°F outside 59°F inside, damp and rainy with some wind, fired up the castine after work with a few splits to take the chill out of the air...
