8 years ago I bought a memory foam mattress made by Bergad Isoform. At the time it was the only option comparable to Tempurpedic, but it cost a fraction of the price. I'm still extremely happy with it, and so is the wife, so I have no reason to change. My parents have a sleep number and love it, and I've stayed on it once or twice when they were out of town I and like it as well. Both Dad and I have bad backs, and both options treat us a lot better than spring mattresses.

The one bad part about a non-tradition mattress, is that "extracurricular activities" are a little different! You never realize how much those springs help until you don't have them!

The app jacked that last post up sorry.

We went everywhere from local furniture stores to national chains. Ended up buying a memory foam mattress with springs from rooms to go. We got a mattress protector that supposedly had a 10 year gaureentee against stains and leaks. A cat got shut in the bedroom and peed on the bed. here we are 4 years later and having to shop again. Yep you guessed it...protector failed. I didnt think it would last 10 years but they said it would. Rubber was all cracked looking. It is covered under the warranty. Was like a $1300 bed. Still have to pay "$100 to return the mattress to the factory" I think thats a scam and basically paying a deduct able for their insurance or something but I havent got out of that get. Now another multi day trip to shop I guess?

Another vote for Sleep Number. My wife and I have it ours around 15 years. We would fight as to what type of mattress. I like my first, she loves them soft. It was the only bed we could find as a happy medium.

Were thinking as soon as we wear this replacement out a sleep number.

Is there a stark contrast in the middle like if you lay holding each other. Thats the only down side I can see. Serta and probably others make a dual mattress with firm and soft sides. Of course you can't change it.

And what is the difference in all the sleep number beds? I see they has e like 7 ranging from $1000-$5000+?

There is a difference but I only notice it if she isn't in bed. You can easily adjust the bed while you are "sleeping together", and when you are ready to go to "sleep", adjust it to that setting. I don't have to readjust my settings. :(

Haha. I wasnt even talking about that. Seriously just holding her at night side by side. But that is a good concern too.

My sleep number bed is about 10 years old now. The machine that inflates the bed is acting out. Loosing pressure, hard to turn on, (yes I'm still talking about the bed) The bed is guaranteed for 20 yrs, but is prorated. My replacement machine was going to be $300-400. I found one on Craig's list for $25 that was only two years old. The guy selling it lived about 40 min.s away. Got it home, hooked it up and wha hoo. I also took that 2 in foam egg crate foam mattress pad out and put in a 3 in. memory foam. then covered the whole thing with a new mattress cover. Better now than when we bought it new.

I have 2" or 2.5", LOVE it too! It can be too hot at times, but its worth the comfort the rest of the time for me.

The Norwegian is talking about getting another mattress. So, this is a timely discussion. Thanks everyone for the input. Our mattress is old and needs replacement. It is a king size it has had two dogs and two kids climb in it with us over the years. But, it is time. I think we got it at the Original Mattress Factory. But, we are looking

Got the sleep number bed about 12 years ago and I like it. We got the deep queen with a memory foam topper. I DO NOT like memory foam on a bed. It is too hot. In the summer it is hard to get air circulation and in the winter the stove keeps our room into the 80's. I like it 55-60 for sleeping. However, the wife likes it warm. Spooning isn't too bad as the middle has a foam support, but the air mattresses underneath kind of cover it. The bad part is if the numbers between the two sides have a big differential: there could be one person up high and the other down low. I had a semi-waveless waterbed for years and loved it. I could keep the temp nice and low, but yet the covers were not ice sheets when I slipped under them in the winter. For marital physical activity the water bed is not very good, the traditional beds are much better.

The sleep number does not come without it's issues. We had to replace the cover at a cost of $200 for us about 5 years in. The top piece constantly moves one way or the other on us. Resulting in an overhang for my wife. On my side, the top of the mattress dips down by the headboard. I just use an extra pillow to remedy that.

While not perfect, and expensive, I still love it. Not sure I could go back to a regular mattress at this point.

That sounds like something cheap? Top part sliding off like a cheap add on top piece for conventional mattress a sagged out part by the head like a cheap pullout couch!!!

This is the first I have heard these issues like this. Is this there lower model ? Are the $5000 ones similar to the $1900 ones? What's different?

That's what she is complaining about. I can pretty much sleep anywhere so I am leaving the mattress selection to her. My only thing is I'm not spending a ton of money on one.

I've sleeping on one of those tuft & needle beds for a week now and like it. I bought direct instead of amazon so I got a 100 day trial instead of 30. $600 shipped free via FedEx and it arrived in 3 days. It's pretty cool how it expands. There's vids of these mattresses on YouTube.

Had a Simmons beauty rest for about
9 years....was ready to be replaced about 3 years ago. Cost about double what the tuft and needle cost.
