When I got up at 5am this morning it was 44 degrees here at the farm in Southern WV. You can really feel fall in the air, especially mornings and evenings in the last week or so. I am ready for some cooler weather, but sure hope we don't have another winter like the last one. Be firing up the stoves before you know it.
We were right at 50 the last 2 mornings across the mountain. The last few mornings and evenings have really felt like fall, and we've been blessed with some low humidity days too. Mowed grass yesterday and had a few leaves in the yard too. I'm guessing we still have at least 6 weeks before any (indoor) fires here, usually September has some warm stretches in it for us.
Yep, I was wishing for a sweat shirt when I was out feeding the chickens right at dawn. My goodness, I even maul split some white oak last night with nothing more than a bit of brow sweat. I love it! Low humidity, clear days with no haze, cool evenings and mornings. It won't be long before the stove is humping and the wood arrows are flying!
Won't be long now? That's what the monkey said when he backed into the lawn mower! Yes, fall is in the air but sadly the forecast is for a big warmup next week.
It is strange. Some are forecasting another hard winter and others are forecasting warmer. Ask in March and we can be more exact then, I guess.
The farmer's almanac claims they nailed it last winter, and has for casted another winter like last year. Does that mean that Massachusetts get so much snow they are paralyzed again? What hurt most of us here was the community budgets took a bad hit for the cost of keeping the roads clear.
