Ummm.... if it was closer I would humbly offer you room in my stacks or your stacks on my landing. Seems ironic, I got at least 3 acres of open area too stack. .. Shortage of wood.. Heck if I had 50 cord out back I would still take it.. most be a hoarding condition caused by 3 years of 10 plus cord a year use. Since I do not need a doctor maybe I will go split for a couple hours! Take it you want it! good luck
That is one of the difficult take down jobs for sure and using a crane is wise for this. Glad you don't have to cut it. Now about this noodling idea. I have never liked it so keep that in mind but there is no way I'd consider noodling something that splits as well as oak. A sledge hammer and 2 or 3 wedges will do the trick perhaps even faster than noodling and no mess to clean up afterwards. If you don't have the tools, perhaps you can borrow some. You can also probably split that using a splitting maul. At least I'd try it. In addition, yes, I'd offer something for the guy to haul the wood to you, even if you store it somewhere other than on your property which can be a good option. Also no worries about it rotting. I'll be burning some oak that laid on the ground for over 10 years before we got it. Yes, some of it is punky but it is still amazing wood and the punky stuff burns just fine during the daylight hours.
good idea about the wedges, if we get it in half we may be able to use rollers and get it under the splitter, as always you have a great idea
