HD and lowes were 239 here, so they are $30 over last year, and premium is $299. They never really differentiated the two before.
Home depot this Am had the Chows, Greene Supreme , and Timber something, but only a few pallets of that.
They be Timber Heats ,a good solid pellet , just added a ton to my stash today pics in the what's up thread.
They had 6 skids of Stove chows in front of HD here outside Phila... they have been there for weeks... some of the bags have some rips and holes and you can see inside that Chunks of pellets have gone back to Mama .[sawdust].. hope some new pellet owner doesn't look for a bargain and ask for lower price since the bags are damaged cause I can see a big mess inside someones stove this winter...
Im around, just been really busy, with no tax holiday here and folks buying pellets. Ive been holding off commenting, because I didn't want to be accused of inciting panic, etc... Yea, even though the price of oil is low, its been busy. Pellets ordered today are looking at a 5-6 WEEK lead time.....we have the pellets for those who pick up, but the truck drivers can only work so many hours per day. So, while common sense might make one think that it'd be slow, we aren't seeing that yet.....maybe later in the season? I don't believe the price will drop much, as the pellet co's have to contract ahead of time for raw material....those prices will hold, so likely the prices from the pellet co's will hold as well. Yep, shortage was bad in certain areas for the last two years....we were only totally OUT of pellets for a day this past year though, so, hopefully this year will be similar. I know some guys say there never was a shortage WHERE THEY ARE, but around here, like Jay said, there certainly was. The real shortage was toward the end of the season, when some dealers, small and big, tend to tone down their inventory, in anticipation of Spring. We really never stop selling pellets, so, not huge issue for us.
Thanks LW always appreciate your input and Tooking the time to give us the dealers side. I'll ask a dumb one, Has the higher boxstore price help your sales any? With the distance in prices being slimer. I would kind of assume/think so.
Its pretty hard to tell, Jay, at this point. Many folks who big box buy are often also procrastinators who don't order until its cold out, so those folks aren't off the fence yet. Maybe its too early to say, but I haven't had any folks tell us that they aren't burning this year because oil is so cheap, but maybe that's coming? Who knows? If there is a correction, I don't think it'll be before late winter to early spring...but by then, we are all just hoping for warm weather.....
over on another forum there has been lot's of " I'm not burning pellets this year due to Oil being low and your all dummies if your going to burn pellets. not exactly those words but quite a few seem to be on a mission to save us from spending money for pellets with oil so cheap. [personally if I was to ditch using my stove this year [NOT] I probably would not be reading this or any other forum about those foolish pellet burners,
actually a pretty valid point, Tully! Yup, oil is cheap, $38/barrel, with some estimate saying it could get down to $30/barrel.....I dunno, my interest is certainly vested, but I honestly believe my quality of life is better burning pellets....kinda crazy, I know, but... 1. I find It relaxing after long day to sit near the pellet stove and watch the fire 2. My home seems (to me) to be more comfy with the stove rather than my oil heat 3. Not financing terrorism 4. Yea, its work bringing those bags in, but my doc sez I need more exercise 5. I don't have to worry what the volatile oil price may be in a month or two.....already will have my winters' heat supply in the cellar 6. No worries about oil tanks in basement rupturing and creating an environmental hazard 7. Yea, I was reaching on that last one....... I don't go to the "other" forum
Me Either and on a personal note Kevin Thanks for being here always appreciate your input , you help us to understand how the pellet market works
You wouldn't believe how many times that REALLY DOES HAPPEN. I see it a few times a year. Accidental overfills too. I removed my 40 yo tank, and have gas service now.
