Yes, a 1/4 chunk and I've never went with the nakid :)binoculars:) version, but will probably the next round along with a round of FHC ones. So that I can give them away...

I use an ⅛ on top and an ⅛ in front of the doghouse with some kindling.

I buy a box of 100 naked ones every other year or so direct from Thomas's manufacturing facility, its like 5 minutes from work and less than 20 from home. He's a great guy to deal and talk with and gives me the nickel tour when I show up

i still have darn near a full box left as it was so mild here last year, I also break them into eighths and use small kindling. 1/8 per cold start

Our local ACE hardware sells 'em, I was thinkin they were less than $1 each, maybe $0.79-$0.89, can't remember now. I usually buy two per year, cut or break off a lil chunk about the size off your fingernail (1/16? :p) tuck that into some kindlin and it's off to the races. Usually save em for totally cold starts. When you are trying to build fire in a limited amount of time (say, before work) SCs are a guaranteed fire

Acutally there are many folks who use only 1/8 of a round per light. I've done it but 1/4 gets it going a bit quicker usually and easy to break into quarters with just 2 hands as they are scored.

Dan, even before the discount, they can cost less than .70 apiece. Not much difference in cost between the wrapped and unwrapped ones. In addition, for new customers Thomas will usually send out 2 samples just for the asking. Get hold of him, I'm thinking, NW_fuels. It's been a while since I've contacted this really nice fellow but and I highly recommend the product.

In addition, I'm thinking strongly of getting one of their new "stoves." http://www.supercedar.com/news.php#stovenews

I think I've posted before that my wife always had problems starting a fire from scratch....until we tried super cedars. That was all I needed and ever since, that is how we start all our fires. However, the last 2 winters there have not been many cold starts because of the weather so we haven't used as many. Probably have plenty yet for this winter but maybe not if we get one of those stoves. They look like they could come in very handy. One could even use them in a hunting blind if ventilated good.

the nekkid 72 pack comes out to about 80 cents a piece before the 10% discount. their website advertises 4 fires per super cedar, and as bs mentioned, they are scored to be cut into quarters, so about 20 cents a fire. the 100 pack is about 70 cents a piece, so they have tiered pricing. the naked vs dignified super cedars only save you between $1 and $2, but i don't like dealing with the wrappers.
try out a 1/4, and you'll be walking in the expert shoes in no time! now, i'm more of the stay on the sidewalk type... some of these fellas like living on the edge with the 1/32 of a super cedar :D
