I live a half mile from the newest store. It's a smaller 80,000 sq ft store and not the normal 250K sq ft most are used to. The first 500 people in line got a gift card with random value. 1 of the 500 was for $500. The rest were not worth waiting on for 10 minutes IMO. Oh yea, they also got a free little gear bag. There were people camping in the parking lot yesterday just to get in line for today. It rained for hours last night also. I won't even wait in line on black Friday....for anything. Let alone a 0.2% chance of getting $500. I'm just happy I can now use their ship to store option!
we got one here a short time ago, i still have not been to it,instead of being happy about it, i am frustrated that i have to pay tax of mail order stuff now, so i switched to bass pro in wonderful tax free nh, they are both overpriced but fun to look around in and there is the occasional sale where you can do okay
Building one down the road from where I work!! Seems like it was cooler when there weren't so many around!!
I've had a Bass Pro near me that was built the year I turned 18, and I've spent a chunk of money there over the years! The only problem was it wasn't a stand alone store, it was part of a mall so I don't consider it a "real" Bass Pro. This year Cabelas is building a store somewhere around here, and Bass Pro has decided to rebuild as well. I'm hoping they're both true "destination" stores! I don't buy as much fishing or hunting equipment as I used to, but I know my daughter would love the huge diorama's they set up in their bigger stores.
I think the Cabelas opened just the other day in West Chester and the new Bass pro will be a few miles from them. It seems that they'll both be visible from I-75, just like IKEA (I really hate that place). I'll wait until it's cold out and nothing better to do and take a drive up there when the wife's feeling restless and wants to get out of the house. About the only thing I buy at those places is bullets.
I don't buy much from either of them anymore, although I've found when traveling out of state that Cabelas sometimes has decent prices on ammo and AR mags. But Bass Pro seems overpriced on everything.
I drove down there and picked up a benelli SBE from that store way back in the day. I remember thinking it was a small crappy store compared to others.
I'd like to have either of them close to me, closest similar stores are Mills Fleet Farm and Gander Mountain about 70 miles away. But I've still got my gun guy two towns over-- I like that I can buy used guns at prices they are actually worth or less.
I remember reading that the Hamburg PA store qualified as the 7th largest tourist attraction in Pennsy the first full year it was open.
I've been twice since Thursday. Stupid limits on 22lr make me go back twice each trip haha. Good thing there is lots of cashiers so they don't catch my scheme. I forgot how much retail sux compared to online pricing.
