My wife would like me to design something so that we do not haul firewood through the house. The house is one level, and I have plenty of room at the wall next to the stove to build something, if there was a good idea. It would need to be pretty weather tight. Anyone got anything? I am thinking maybe a pull-out drawer contraption, that pulls through the wall, is loaded, then push it in - voila, wood is in the house. Any thoughts? Any better ideas? BTW - building code or appearance are not significant issues. Greg Edit: probably more accurately called a pass-through?
Yep, yep he do. With the cool rollie things that hold wood. Me, I just schlep wood through the front door.
Around 4' and the stove is just a few feet from the window. This works great without carrying any wood through the house.
That's sweet, Jack Straw, Can you describe the type of window- kinda hard to see in pics- Is it a slider, double hung, or a homemade hinged thingy?
Last year I ended up making a wood pile outside the window near the stove. the window is about 4 feet off the ground. Either my kids hand me the wood through the window where I will then stack it near the stove. Or, I pass the wood through the window to Mrs. CoachSchaller who does the stacking.
Your firewood drawer thru-the-wall idea is doable with the outside end of your drawer being insulated and sealing as it's pushed back in with a full load. The whole drawer could ride on heavy duty straight casters on a couple rails. If you happen to have a wall right beside the stove that puts the drawer where you want it outside... I'd sure do it. Very cool idea Greg...
In early times of FHC, someone did a thread on a wood pass through from his garage. I thought it was well done and a neat idea. Does anyone remember who did it?
Wow! That guy lives about 20 minutes from my folks, based on his telephone exchange(580)!!! Nice handiwork. Good video Stinny
I know of a house that when the fireplace was built the added an ouside door. Inside it was just an open shelf. I don't think it held much more than 2 days worth of wood.
