We have some great neighbors. Last night the family on the west side brought over some venison they smoked. Just had a venison sandwich in fact. In return I made some peanut butter bars and took them over. The neighbor on our east is a really nice older lady. She is always dropping off vegetables from her garden for us. I decided to help her out in a way that fits right in on FHC. She has two large silver maples in the street right of way. The city makes the adjacent owner take care of any work and liability associated with them. I asked if she wanted me to take down a good size dead branch that overhangs the street. I know she is on a tight fixed income so she might not be able to swing the cost of a pro taking it down so she was really happy I offered. Its the lowest one in the picture. It''s been dead for several years and the woodpeckers love it. Figured it was an accident and mess waiting to happen. I blocked off the street and took it down. I made a bit of a mess but you can see it hit the parking lane, bike lane and drive lane of the street. My bride and I shoved it off into the gutter and opened the street back up. Kind of figured a lot of it would be punky. About 2/3 (front part of the trailer) will just go to the tree dump, but I did get a few nice rounds of shoulder season wood for the mornings efforts. Cleaned up the tree and headed over to unload. Doug helped me unload and stack the rounds, but when I went to finish bucking, splitting and stacking my locust, mulberry and apple stack I was on my own. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Time to relax a bit.
Thanks, but it was no big deal. I'm just lucky enough to be able to do that kind of work. I also was able to use the chain on the Stihl that I just sharpened. Seemed to cut just fine so I guess I didn't botch it up.
At this day and age a lot of neighbors would be waiting for it to fall so they could put pictures up of it or sue over it. I won't retract my statement..lol.. That was a great thing you did and you're one heck of a neighbor.
.... That's a great job, and proof that this group of guys here at FHC are what this world needs...neighbors helping one another.
Thanks. This is a great group here! And way to go helping out your cousin too....I guess we got the morning started right huh?
That's a great help to a neighbor! A nice help to your community, and some shoulder season wood. Great way to spend the morning I'm sure! I agree with ya! The FHC is packed full of great people. Da#n glad I joined this place. Nicely done Schlot!
Neighboring is something that you just dont hear about much anymore. Good deed and keep up the helpful attitude....we need more of it in this country.
My neighbor on one side mows my front yard. He was mowing all of it until I got my own mower. The other one edges all three of our sidewalks, all the way to the front door. I'm not quite sure how to contribute Someday I'll fit in. They've made the transition from having no neighbors very easy. We lucked out.
There is mixed answeres on that around here. As long as the branch isn't cut against the trunk and leaving a few inches, the chances of insect/disease is minimal.
