Son and I found some "leftovers" from 3 downed large Douglas Firs. Free. Most of it was about 40" in diameter, so bucking was a bit of work, but our Stihl 039 with 28" bar took care of it. Wife and I just finished splitting it, a few aches and pains later. Now to haul down to our reserve pile. We'll probably burn this during the '19-'20 winter. Yes, people say I have somewhat of a firewood hoarding problem. But hey, it's free, and whose door will those people be knocking on when the snowstorm knocks out power. I need help figuring out how much it is. Pile is roughly rectangular. 6' tall in the middle. About 24' long by about 14' wide.
Heck, around here, that'd be ready to burn winter of '16. Nice job. Your wife lets you help? Aaaand, welcome to FHC.
Thats how I get all my firewood, and usually its all already bucked to size. I am good to go till at least '18-'19. You aint burning that till '19-'20? are you going to at least top cover it? Nice WAZZU flag, my son just graduated from their
You've got a nice tight pile there with a steep slope on the sides so I averaged the height at 4'. So 4' X 14' X 24' = 1344 ft³ ÷ 128 = ~10-½ full cords. Good on you!
Dang, your wife is hardcore doing all that splittin in her bare feet Greg, had a cord guess thread for a pile he had awhile ago, it was fun seeing all the guesses. I'll guess 14.4 cords.
She lets me split the gnarly ones. It'd be ready for winter of '16, but it has to wait its turn. Seems I have an overabundance. Better than an underabundance I guess.
Go Cougs! We both graduated from there, as did our daughter. Son's starting his senior year next week. Yeah, it'll be covered with a tarp so should be ok til then.
how much do you usually burn a season? I say usually because these last 2 winters have been real mild
It's funny how different things are in other areas of the country. Our last 2 winters have been pretty brutal as far as temps go. She's obviously pretty smart then.
I'll be able to figure it out once it's stacked, provided I can find room. She's a pretty tough old Gal. Oops. Young gal.
Holy cow dude, do you not have any insulation? how big is your house?? 7 to 8 cord a year in western Wa is insane
Normally about 5 cords, but last year not even 4. I live in Snohomish where it's pretty mild. Hoping for some colder weather this winter.
I am in Everett just down the road from you, think I burned 2 to 2 1/2 cord last year. but I do not burn 24/7 not sure if you do or not
