If you had it to do again, would you consider the p68 over the p 61? Also, how often do you open the stove for any attention. The reason I am being so nosey is I am doning another consideration and I have to be able to sell my idea to the wife before I get to spend any big bucks. If I wait much longer, I'll be too damm old to have it name any sence. Thanks

"tea bagger", I had to look that one up as I often miss things that have double meanings. Now I am sorry I did! Some times there really is a generation gap!

I know you were asking Sub, but I thought I'd put my two cents in. I thought I would regret not getting the 68. It was $300 more, but I didn't have the extra to spare so I got the 61. Been reading a lot of posts about people's stove not holding up when it gets really cold for a week or two at a time. But after this week, no worries at all. Stove has kept up and didn't have to crank it to 80 to do so. And not really going consuming more pellets either.

It's one of those rare cases where the product performs like it was advertised to do.

Thanks Hoot, I am grateful for any information I can get. I really like the idea of not having to change out my vent if I go with either of these two stoves. I'll be talking with my nephew fairly soon. He works for the company that sells them here. He has said he would help with the installation. I am not physically able to do much of anything like that now. I have been hearing a lot about how infrequently these stoves need to be cleaned out, and how well they handle most any pellet with no problems. However, as I mentioned before, I have to sell the wife on this before I can make the switch. She objected when I put this stove in, but now really likes it. Just need to be a little warmer. This year is one that really shows that need. animated-smileys-winter-012.gif

Good luck with the convincing. I told my wife it was going to be a messy wood eater where she would have to help with the splitting, stacking, and carrying. Or a pellet burner. She went with less work for her.

Save, it depends on the size of your house. I'm only heating 1000 sp. ft. on the main floor. House built in 1930. I had insulation blown in and I have replacement windows, but a lot of them so I have to deal with that. No open concept at all, all small rooms. All said, though, the P-61 does me fine. When the sun is out, piece of cake. Cloudy and windy, the stove has to work. Had it on heat level 5 a couple of times for a short period. Usually between 2.5 to 4.

yes, it does except when the outside temps goes down in the teens or less. So, 20 F, the house is warm, under 20 F crank it up, but sustained lower temps and assist is needed. We are using the furnace back up, and she has the little electric space heater she drags around with her.

The P-61 will crank some heat and should do the job. But this spell of weather is testing everyone's stove. And it's really just a normal Maine winter. I just hate to see you buy one and then wish you bought the P-68. Rocky always has P series running in his store. Maybe take a ride over there and check one out?

yes, I agree. I want to talk to my nephew about this also. He works there and does a lot of their tech work. I need to keep the cost down, but also be realistic. Maybe a few more things I need to button up to prevent heat loss. thanks
If you listen to the critics, they tell you that pellet stoves are "space heater" Most of us here feel we depend on them to heat our homes as primary heat. The furnace is backup.
