How often do you dust your cat?

My cat was getting a little sluggish. I checked it and there was a lot of fly ash on it. I dusted it with a paint brush before I got any pics, but here are some before and afters of the air scoop screen. This was after only 1/3 cord of two year CSS red oak. Seems excessive to me. What do y'all think?

 

I don't have a kitty but ya if I did and it got dusty I would dust as needed...

 

I do mine as needed which ends up being every couple of months I guess I dont really keep track of it but I did notice some build up on the screen so Ill give it a brushing next weekend when Im off. I think I took it out some time in September or early October last time.

 

Do sent look bad to me? Is that your cat? Mine is square holes and 2"s thick. I pull it once a yr. And that equates to 1.5-2.5 cords.

Needing dusted at 1/3 cord seems excessive. For some people that would be once a week.

 

I just reach up in my PH with a paint brush and dust the screen before reloading, if I see it's getting build up... works good... Did that with the Fireview as well..

 

I don't mess with mine cause I have to drip a housing and it needs to be cool to do it so I need like 36 hours to cool to do it. I sometimes get that span but in dead winter it ain't coming out!!

 

I use a long handle grill brush to clean off that scoop screen as needed. No need to pull it out, I can do it before reloads. As far as the cat I remove the scoop, brush and vacuume about once every cord burned.

 

Todd do you ever pull the cat and clean it? I usually just brush one side from the firebox.

 

I have to dust him just about every day. If it is lit he is there, laying in whatever dust fell during the last re-load. I can tell how hot the stove is running by how far away he is.

Sometimes I'll pull the cat and check everything out mid season if we get some good weather but I don't think it's really needed til the end of the season unless your wood isn't up to par.

 

FYI....if your cats don't like being dusted, there is always the boiling vinegar bath!

 

My cat goes behind the furniture and dusts, for me, Once in awhile comes out with cobwebs on his whiskers

 

Dusting didn't work. Time for a vinegar bath. Pan isn't big enough so I'm going to soak it for 30 min on each side. Solution turned green, I guess that's a good sign.

 

How old is your cat Fox? Looks like one of the old steel cats that had some problems. WS has a new and improved design and I'd bet they would swap it out for you if it doesn't improve.

 

I put the vaccine to mine but I can't get to the down stream side without pulling and regasketing mine. But I can easily see through all the voids so I don't worry much.
