Anyone's thoughts on a Quad Classic Bay 1200?

    Good or bad...I might go look at one. It looks like an older one as it was manufactured by Aladdin yet. I'd have to get it for way cheaper than the $1100 they are asking for it. I'm just kicking it around right now.

    Possibly replace the 25. I'm looking for something to collect ash a bit easier for testing and a bigger hopper for longer burn times in the dead of winter. The lack of hi/low might be an issue though.

    It's definitely an old unit i think as the manufacture was Aladdin. I sent an email to HHT to see if they can tell me the date of manufacture since the current owner can't find it.

    Harman P series are the easiest to clean IMHO. Still have a hi/lo comparable setting in their funky controller.

    I also like the enviro's as they don't have a channel behind the stove chassis. no ports-doors to try and clean. The inside baffle pulls out and you'll have full access to what ever ash is hiding behind it. ;) Stay away from the dial a fire models unless you can afford to upgrade to the digital board. Might be able to find an M55 steel. They have been out for a good bit now!!

    The 1200 is a bulletproof stove and for several years the only stove I had. I ran mine 24/7 on low for most of the heating season and would use on/off in the shoulders.

    It's heat exchanger is very efficient and easy to clean if you have a good (long) coil/lint brush.
    And its a looker too!! A little paint on the grill and she looks fancy!

    That said, I love the bottom feed of the newer SBI units (Eurostar, Euromax, 5000, Eco-65) and of course all of the Harman stoves. I can go about a half a season before emptying the ash in my current Eurostar.

    I sold mine for $1,200 to a good buddy of mine and it was in great shape with 2 extra ignitors, an extra door gasket, and a couple combustion blower motor gaskets.

    If I was selling on CL? I probably would have asked $1,800. But he is a good friend from work. He has had it 2 winters and never fired it up. He just finished his basement (took 3 years). So this winter I will be over to see that it runs as it should.

    For the age of that stove (it has to be an early model year)? I would be comfortable about $700-$800. If everything on it works and it doesn't need a bunch of parts.

    Thanks Dex, my exact thought was $800 tops....still waiting to hear back from HHT on the year based off the serial number.

    OK HHT got back to me....born on date is May 17, 2002.... Probably some mileage on the parts unless they've been replaced. I have no way of knowing as the people that currently own the stove moved into the house two years ago and it was already there.

    An old trick I was told when making an initial offer is when you get to the price in your head where it first makes you smile. That's where you start.

    The other thing is there is no doubt you could start throwing numbers at this person about how much part a and b would cost to fix and make them believe that $500 is a very reasonable offer. In fact, start at $400
