    Great looking buddies gang:yes:

    A little heads up!!

As our Buddy, come to find out had a toad in his mouth a few days back and was just about to push some daisies up but was back to his ol self this afternoon.
I knew these things were bad for dogs but didn't know about the taste test till the youngest boy filled us in yesterday.

Any suggestions as to how it should be corrected? We don't get "Dog Whisperer" unless it's free preview weekend...

Well I wish I could type faster.
But...try this vid. Its about the dog claiming you, it doesn't matter if its another dog, or you, moving in for a kiss. If the dog is protecting your wife from you, then SHE needs to correct the dog for that behavior. Same goes for you.

    Its all about energy.
If you (or your wife), puff up your chest, put your hand on your hip and your body language is saying "I'M in charge here", the dog will stop challenging you. You can Not let the dog win. Dont get angry!
If you have to correct him a hundred times, then thats what you do. As long as you win and the dog gives up.

The biggest problem could be getting your wife on board with this style training. The only way this can work is if you both give the same corrections, consistently.

I have a saying, a tired dog is a good dog. Walk him, till he's tired. Use a leash, on every walk.
I took Ruger around the neighbors 40 acres twice right before dark tonight. Me on the quad, him running beside me. No leash needed on mountain ground. Haven't heard a peep from him since.

The only thing I can add is that like turbo said...a tired dog is a good dog. But a hungry dog works and listens. I'm in no way saying starve him! But training at the right time and rewarding food has marvelous effects for a food driven dog.

You probably need to find a trainer that will also work with you on the behavior issues. It is very rewarding when you teach the dog a new behavior or command.

I've been teaching Ruger the last couple weeks to walk backwards. I know, your saying , what for?
If he charges the door when someone comes to visit, you tell him back and he backs away from the door.
We've spent months working on downs. He was slow learning the down. I can now walk 50-75 feet away while he downs.

It's all done in small steps and progresses more and more till you get what you want.
I'll bet DaveGunter could weigh in here. His five are well trained

Right where I want to be.
Down is a very submissive position and most dogs don't like it.
The ones with a bit more attitude absolutely hate it.
Be the Alpha. Sooooo many people don't get this.
