Was lucky to score 4 tons of Somersets at a local TSC that managed to have two shipments last Sept-Oct. As the box stores are locking in the $269 price point for the "opening ante" this season.... that $300/ton price for a premium grade makes a lot of sense. The $219/ton has gone the way of the 15 cent hamburger. I don't want to gamble if lightning does not strike twice at TSC or be stuck in the queue with the rest of NE when the product gets tight in a couple of month. All that will be left will be the junk and ash. No thanks. Burning the Sets all last season, I cleaned the stove just twice! February 2015 was a batch outside but nice and toasty inside my world. Going to drive up to Uxbridge tomorrow and grab some LaCretes (309/ton), Spruce Point (309/ton) or Blazers (319/ton.) Sitting on 3 1/2 tons of Somersets and 1/2 ton of Barefoot ( I'm a PIG, PIG, PIG), I like to stock two years out so another 2-3 tons will fill the bill. And I can. I have never bought pellets earlier in any season but the game is changing. Sucks not to have a chair when the music stops, n'est pas?
Welcome Augmister, Glad you stopped by. Nice find in them sets, Should do well for you. I can only hope my TSC has sets too!!
Nice to find and see "old" friends from that other site! This will be the 10th season for the Castille and I am truly a pellet head. For reasons unknown, Somerset sent two truck loads to the TSC in Coventry. I paid about $229 for the first three tons and the last one was $259. Still have a ton left over. Very small and well insulated house and burn 3-3.5 tons a season. jtakeman, hope you do score some Sets! Did you see any at your TSC last year?
Yes, But they went as fast as they came in. We could only score a few bags before they vanished again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they come back real soon!!
Hi Augmister, welcome. The TSC store you bought those sets at got another shipment in early January as well. Thanks to a tip from unbidden I was able to get over there just in time to grab a few bags. Let me tell you, I test burned 20+ different brands of pellets last season, including 2 different brands of DF pellets. The sets took #2 best performance in my stove, beaten only by PTL Softies. If I could find them regularly, and at a decent price, I would never buy another brand of pellets. If you are interested, there is a place over in Plainfield that stocks them- price is $290 this year. Too steep for me, given the price of oil these days.
They are a might fine pellet and I hope you come across them in your travels. Got my first taste 4 or 5 years ago when they showed up at the Lowes in Killingly. I had a Ford Ranger and made about 6 20 mile trips to gorge on them. They were everything the reviews said they were. Last year, a fine score, four tons, at TSC in Coventry. They "might" be back. I would stay in touch with your near by TSC. Not sure of any pellet houses stocking them in our area.
Glad you got a few bags and sorry it was not more. I will be monitoring that store as I would love to add another ton for next year's stash. Also, good to know that a local pellet house is stocking Somersets. Given that the box store price is now $269/ton (Green Team, Green Supremes, Stove Chow, FSU) I would certainly buy them at $290. Last year, I would not have considered it but the times they are a' changin". I grabbed two tons of Blazers @ $289 in Uxbridge, this afternoon. Give me the lowdown on how they worked for you. First time buying/burning softies. Am starting another thread on this....
Yep...one is the standing offer!! Would happily give more, just makin' sure this isn't one of you that has taken out a false identity to milk me out of my stash!
