So, while going through Traverse City today, we saw quite a bit of tree carnage after a storm ripped through there sometime Sunday. Trees down all the way through the main drag. Why could I cry? Simply because there was no room in the van and we didn't have a chainsaw with us, so I couldn't procure any of this wood. I saw a bunch of crews with chippers at work. Only got a couple so-so pics.........
Feeling yer sorrows, papadave Maybe if you have to mulch next summer some of it will end up in your yard
Ugh. Too bad to lose all that wood. And the city will miss those trees. Took a long time for them to grow that big. Hopefully they will replant 2 for every 1 they lost.
Guess it was much worse to the NW of Traverse City. I've seen some pictures and some road are closed and you can certainly see why. One road in particular you can barely see the road as it was in a wooded area and they fell like dominoes. Fortunately the storm petered out before it got here. We got .8" of rain and lots of lightning but not much wind.
If there are hoarders in the area it should not take long to open the roads. I narrowly escaped a falling branch when I was leaving a company picnic but I carried a bow saw in my trunk at the time. I stopped as soon as I could and walked back with my bow saw in hand to face an 8 inch diameter branch that had fallen and had the road closed. In less than 10 minutes traffic was able to use that access road again. It really doesn't take much to open a road if that is your main focus.
I was in Glen Arbor and Traverse City on saturday. Left northern Michigan on Sunday morning and just missed all of the bad weather. If not for the wind damage, the storms would be a welcomed sight. I can't believe how dry it is up there.
I may be getting older at 67 YO but I still carry a bow saw in the trunk of my car. These days I mostly ride my bike and there is no place for a saw in that tiny trunk. Chain saw does not travel with me because that would mean carrying fuel mix and bar oil as well. If I kept the saw full I would need to deal with leakage, especially bar oil leakage. Who needs that mess in a car trunk?
I feel your pain....I am 63 Years old female and back is pretty much fried....Soooo I hafta look away when I see nice firewood on the side of the road...But I still get some and pay for it for a week or so...
Sorry about that Milleo. I am no spring chicken but everything still feels like it works right. My cardiologist likes to keep track of me but I have no symptoms that make me slow down much. Early September I have another assessment appointment but I am still splitting my rounds by hand. The heat bothers me a lot more than my physical condition. With highs near 90ºF lately, I knock off after about an hour of work in the cool of the morning, go inside and take a shower to cool back down.
This was the cause of the damage. Kalkaska got hit pretty hard also. I spent Mon. and Tue. cutting trees off from houses.
I have to say, I didn't take any of them. We did get to watch a power like start smoking then burst into flames and then it fell and started a grass fire. It was some excitement for a few, luckily it did no harm to anything and the fire dept. was there within 5 min. of the grass starting. The damage up here is incredible, thousands and thousands of trees down. Today I seen a stand of red pine that was 20 acres or so just leveled.
