Hey all, trying to get a rough idea of pricing for chimney sweeping an 25ft exterior chimney and an inspection as well. Never had either done so not sure on who is trying to pull one over on me and who is not. Thanks
My exterior chimney is about 27'. S.S. 6" pipe. My sweeper charges me $125 now. Worth every penny. I have him do it once, sometimes twice a year. Depends on how it looks. Keep that thing clean!
110-130 for me. He goes through the stove instead of top down. One would need a bucket truck to get to my stack.
Little more pricey out my way, $175. My guys does bottom up and uses a camera afterwards. Before he leaves he does a stove inspection.
$150 last time I paid to have it done, bottom up from the basement clean out, run the brush through once, and they shop vac the cleanout, no inspection.
I paid a company $100 per chimney for cleaning and inspection a few years ago when we bought this place. He was not properly trained where the scrapings ended up nor to give an opinion on the shape of our chimney and piped stove. I guess I am suggesting to check him out first before you blow $300 like I did for a simple brushing.
Not sure why everyone here is content with charging so much. Have called 3 places first place was 175 for sweep and camera inspection (did not service my area though). Second was 250 for sweep and camera inspection and third call was 325 ! Have a fourth call in but really bummed out so far. You figure with an inspection and then me still needing to install and get all the install pieces im looking at over $1,000 before this winter...
Install cost only hurts once. Should last at least 20 years. Do the math. I keep thinking about the time when I'll need to pay someone to sweep, but I hope it's a long way off.
Out my way a lot of "sweeps" come in with a low-ball of $49 to sweep and inspect. They ALWAYS find major dangerous problems that need to be fixed before the chimney should be used again. The bill magically becomes several hundred to a thousand dollars. Best advice is to check out the sweep before you commit. Never use the guys that are "going to be in the area doing other jobs" so they can give you a good price. If you have a reliable stove shop ask who he recommends. KaptJaq
Varies widely around here. I have had quotes (for my 28 foot class A chimney) of between $195 and $149.
I pay my guy 100 and full clean inspection and pulls the stove apart and cleans everything. He has been doing it for 4 years and does a great job!!
Dude just got here to clean my chimney. Told me in the phone it would be 250 and I'm almost positive he said for a video inspection and clean. Gets here says 350 for a visual inspection and cleaning. Told him he can just get back in the truck if he wont do it for the 250 he told me. So needless to say now I am paying some shcmuck 250 to visual inspection and clean my chimney. He also said having a crack in the chimney wouldnt matter since I am installing a liner the length of the chimney. Is that true? Pretty sure this will be the one and only time he cleans my chimney.
Trust me never again will somebody other then me be doing that. Im fully confident I can do it and do it darn well. Oh and for everyone's enjoyment this was my view.
I paid someone $$ to clean/inspect my chimney, know I have shared that with you before (structually good but badly neglected for who knows how many decades). We ended up buying and borrowing more equip to to do the job ourselves, and do the job right. We may have gone overboard in our cleaning since we but in a flex liner, but we both sleep better at night, feel safer.
