It makes you wonder if they should completely faze out some of these older, but proven planes, with that new multi billion dollar plane.
No wondering for me Gas... really dumb move. These planes are dreaded by our enemies all over the world. For good reason. The A10 is like a butt ugly junk yard dog... if it was my call, I'd have 1000 of em on order, just for starters. Not many jets that can fly low and slow carrying lots of attitude adjustment ordinance like the A10.
Yup. And speaking of attitude. What's that bigger old plane they use that has those friggin gatteling guns and those cannons. Man that thing can pound the chit out of stuff from a higher altitude! Talk about putting the fear in the enemy! C-130?
The a10 is my favorite all time aircraft. I love having them buzz over the treetops while I'm out in the woods near Fort McCoy. Just the sound of the twin turbines is enough to scare the hell out of any insurgents. The mini gun on the front is almost not even needed.
The first "Puff" was an ac47 (the military transport version of the DC3) converted from mail service with the addition of 3 mini guns on the pilot's side of the aircraft. This was in Vietnam in late 1964. They were field mounted and rigged so the pilot could remotely fire any or all of them with controls on his yoke. He would circle the target and use a manual sight over his left shoulder. With his range and ammo supply he could fly close support for hours at a time. KaptJaq
My family and I went to Kalamazoo Michigan to the air museum and we ended up talking to a volunteer that flew an A10. He had some cool stories. Nice videos.
