Im a husky guy at heart but a co worker brought in an ms460 that his friend wants to sell. It's got a heated handle and 20" b&c. It starts and runs fine and is pretty clean but compression seems a bit on the weak side. Im bringing my comp tester to work tomorrow to get a true reading. If the compression is where it should be, what's a decent price? I know it's hard to give a number without a pic but just looking for a ballpark number.
Convince him to let ya pop off the muffler and look at the piston... It could tell you more than a comp reading. As for compression readings on this saw- Mine was at 165 during break in and is probably over 170 now (rebuild w base gasket). You'd want over 150 or so... A nice 460 gets between $450-$600 here... Some low hour ones go higher as they are fairly new and well-liked here
A typical, stock, 460 will blow 155 psi, give or take. Lots of influences, I wouldn't be too worried at anything over 140 psi. A mint 460 will fetch $6-700 pretty easily. A rough example that needs work can still sell for $2-300. Condition is everything. That heated handle (full wrap?) is prob worth a few bucks too.
Yeah i plan on pulling the muffler also. Just a standard handle unfortunately. Thanks for the info guys. Im trying to talk another co worker into buying it so i don't haha but he's on the fence as he really doesn't need a 70+cc saw.
A half-wrap heated handle model? Such a creature did exist but not nearly as common as the full-wrap. Peaks my interest a bit as I prefer a half-wrap and I do like the heated handles.
In my area that's a $4-450 saw. Our area is lower than a lot of others. We don't have the 290s selling for $400
Is it me or do I see the same thing 3times? Haha! I do it too when I have almost zero signal. You dont know when it takes the post or not.
Well after pics...Man thats like two different saws. One side looks good the other side is pretty scuffy... Is that a crack off the handle on the case? I cant quite pull up on the picture well enough. It looks like a "Y" coming from the bottom. But in the condition that its in, it would be a good work saw, probably 325 to 425... But I like a good lookin' saw.
Well I didn't end up buying the saw but it had pretty darn good compression (160lbs) . Right after I put the saw back together, the owner called my coworker and said he had it sold to someone. Oh well, I didn't need it anyways. Chvymn99 that was just a scratch, not a crack.
