Last Sunday's paper here had an ad for COD Oil at $2.19/gal for 300 gal.......even less for higher amounts. And this is NY, land of high cost energy everything!
Before we started to buy pellets made by Curran Renewable out of Massena NY, we would buy Dry Creek, this year the price per bag on Dry Creek is $7.19 a bag. When we bought the wood stove after buying the lot I cut on, Dry Creek had gone up to 6.00 per bag.
Bingo !! I got the call yesterday from my pellet house asking if I was ordering this year. He delivers to 2-3 others in my area and makes all on the same trip which saves him time and us on delivery charges. He has always delivered up here in June, but running behind this year. I had been thinking that I had missed out in it, but no. This is the first year that I havnt called him starting in May so he called me to let me know he is coming up this way in 2 weeks. Talked for a bit on pricing and told him I am still hedging my bets on oil prices but I will definitely take 2 pallets minimum. Right now I can get oil at 2.49 and 10 month payment plan-not too shabby around here but waiting on one last oil company to even announce their pricing. To the OP, any of those are a good choice and I would lean towards the LaCrete. I have burned three of the top four. LaCrete, Spruce Pointe and North Country are all great choices. Talking with my pellet guy, the his pricing is similar LaCrete 299 Spruce Pointe 290 OkiePlatinum 304 My choice will probably be the Cretes and I would love to try the Okie Douglas Fir but at 360/ton its too much of a stretch. He has already sold 200 ton of these this year, his customers love them and he used them last season. Dave wasnt pushing these and he never does push the expensive stuff, but if you ask he will give honest advice. He has never steered me wrong and admits that 60 bucks more may or may not be worth it but during the coldest time of the winter last year, the heat output on his XXV was noticeably higher and after 30 days of burning he had maybe 2 cups of ash. Last year was his forst year burning the Fir and thought people were crazy, but after trying a few bags, he burned 5 ton himself and will be doing the same this year. He has a new to him brand that I want to check out with members here HJ Crabbe softies at 269
I had a hunch so I took a ride to Wally World this morning to check things out. Woohoo! MWP at $219/ton, $4.38/bag. Grabbed 5 bags just because. They had several hundred tons in stock and were unloading a truck while I was there. I plan on buying 5 bags a payday all winter if the price holds.
Sweet !! That's what I need to find right about now! I should start checking the Wally World on my way home from work-but they usually get Maines Choice at this store
Subsailor has a great find! With Gas going down again, and home heating fuel down, I don't see how the other box stores can hang onto their increased pricing. Time will tell.
I read online today that analysts are expecting oil prices to continue to drop. If they do, I have to think it will impact pellets consumption and the prices will have to come down.
Sub, this post inspired me to swing through my local Walmart parking lot. Much to my surprise they had 80 tons out back. All Nature's Heat; UPC tracks back to Bio-Plus, Inc. Anyway, no signage at the store yet announcing prices but according to their website for my zipcode, the price is $5.64/bag...WHAT
According to the WallyWorld website, a couple stores about 15 mi. from me have Pennington Oak hardwood.......same price you saw. Now, if that really is true, I'd have to see to believe. I burned about 20 bags of those about 5 yrs ago.....they were HOT!
I saw that on their website for my local store as well but the price was higher, don't remember what it was though. All they had in stock, though, was the MWP's.
Same here. The website shows the product at my local store as the Oak version, but that's not really what they have down there. If they did, I would scarf a few bags for testing purposes!
Sub, Walmart's Web site says the Pennington oak hardwood is available at the showhegan store @$5.64 /bag http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennington-Fuel-Pellets/16795274?location-search=04330
When I looked, it said the same for Augusta but all I saw was the MWP @ $219. I have 2.5 tons of good stuff and I'm hoping to get by with only burning 1.5 tons of it this year, so I need the MWP's. I'm not sure I would buy the Penningtons even if they had them, especially at that price.
