I spent most of the day releasing a persimmon that was growing in what used to be our goat yard. It was totally surrounded by cedars and overtopped with pine. Still, it put out a lot of fruit last year so I figured it would be worth releasing.

Today I just did the cedars. The pines are big, tall, and straight, so they may be worth milling. I don't have a mill yet and I think it is a good idea to let the persimmon strengthen for a while- it was so packed in there I doubt it has experienced much wind stress. Persimmon Start.JPG
Here it is after the first cedar is down. I managed to drop it just where I wanted to next to the fence while avoiding the old van that used to be the goat house and will eventually be a chicken coop.

Lots of potential energy with that trunk floating on about 100 branches. Nothing to do but carefully cut the supporting branches and lower it safely to the ground.

    On the Ground.JPG
I carefully removed the supporting branches bit by bit, then gently rolled it over so it was safely on the ground. After that it was just limbing and policing up the branches. The front end loader helped a lot and I ended up making a nice brush pile.

There is nothing in the picture for scale, but that is about a 14-16 inch trunk.

You can start to see the persimmon better now between the two remaining cedars. The one on the right has all of its branches on the east side, putting all the weight right toward the fence. I used my front end loader to tear as many branches off as I could before dropping the tree.

Carefully made my face cut, started the back cut, drove my wedges in, and dropped it 90 degrees from where I wanted. Right on the fence. Should have known I couldn't overcome all the branches being on one side. Live and learn. Fortunately it landed between fence posts and with all those branches to cushion the fall all it did was pop a couple staples and bend the top wire a bit. No worse than a half dozen other places where windfall has gotten the fence in the past.

    One Cedar To Go.JPG
The remaining cedar is intertwined with the persimmon and the pine. No way it is going to fall over.

So I first cut it then knocked it off the stump, intentionally leaving it hung.

Nothing that can't be fixed with a chain and a tractor

I got most of my lawn mowed tonight. Just about a half hour left of mowing and then 20-30 minutes of weed whacker trimming. That will be tomorrow after on out in the boat all day. We'll probably go out on on the lake Sunday too.

Tomorrow will be the hottest day in 2 years. Heat index over 100 Saturday.

I'll probably make a few laps behind the boat on the wakeboard with that heat. I'll have a few cheap beers too.

Heat index is already 90*! Split some wood for an hour and a half this morning, but it can wait for a better day to continue. There's extreme heat in the forecast for many of us today! Be safe everybody!! :dennis:

Hooking up the boat.... My woodcutting buddy will join us on the boat after he gets out of work. It's hot out there, and it already stormed this am. Good news is all that rain watered the plants and garden. Less for me to do

Ball joints is one thing I pay to have done on a vehicle. Way too much aggravation for them. A friend told me my truck needs a $1300 set of the pullers to do them the easy way. I'll just pay the $350 for labor and be happy.

Just making a run to drop off some donation items, then back home to mow, and hopefully finish up modifying a D005 mount bar to fit on my Olympyk 272.

Oh yeah, I also have to swing by FedEx to send out a bunch of guide bars to Oregon, Tennessee, and New York.

I had to work from 7:30 to 2 but still managed to put a new battery in the gator with my son helping. Of course the necessary 13mm wrench magically disappeared from the wrench set, but I needed to go out to get a battery anyway so I picked up a new wrench. Then I decided it was Saturday and time to goof off.

Cut the grass and weedeated at both my houses and dinked around with my pool some more. Helped my daughter wash her car and made a grocery trip. Just finished dinner and will get some strawberry ice cream in a bit.

Hope to work on the Stihl 180 and Husky 285 tomorrow.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Use a half inch wrench and move on.

Gots a 660 in here for a mild massage. Nothin' fancy, just a muffler mod (aftermarket DP cover and open up the original can.) I've already done knocked the bird cage out of it and eye-balled what needs to happen for the side outlet. :dremel: This thing is running a 24" full-time and had a 7 pin on it that should have been changed out 5-6 chains ago. So I slapped a hardly used 8-pin on it and we'll see how it does tomorrow.:saw:

Then I get to put a clutch spring in a 55 Rancher. That will have me writing a speech for sure. :hair:
