OK, found a better deal. Find someone with DirecTV that will let you log in with their info-- got most of the same channels available to us as with sling, and a bunch extra as well.
Android TV has it now too. I'm this close to getting sling TV and dropping direct TV. AMC BBC, discovery, food, cooking channel, so much more is now on sling. Sling is actually owned by dish network. Dish was always getting hammered by direct TV, this way dish could really mop up.
It appears to be the best of these cord cutter specials. I think it's the only one with 4k. http://www.android.com/tv/
I see it has an actual play store, but are the majority of apps available? With the FireTV I sideloaded the 1Mobile store and now I can install anything from the play store, despite not using the play app. The Fire TV box plays things well, but the stick-- not so much. Avoid the FireTV stick!
HBO now, huluplus, slingTV, food TV, CBS sports, epix, travel channel, red bull, etc. It looks like there's a lot out there
Only a matter of time. There is a lot of pressure to take down the big cost. The problem is much of the country needs better internet access. Too slow, none at all, too costly. Go to most any major city and things are much different. Cell and internet connections are much better. So are the cost.
Yes, that's my issue, slow internet. It's 12mbps on att uverse dsl here. The high speed u verse is not available in our neighborhood. The only reason is there's less homes in an area as we all have an acre of land. I could get cable modem from time Warner, but I hate them. I don't think 12 mbps will work well with a streaming service like Android tv or roku.
I don't like them either, but it is the only game in town right now. I do have TW and get 30x5 Love my internet. My son will be living her soon and will share the cost. Won't be so bad then. TW now has a new DVR that does 6 shows at once and is whole house. Much like Direct TV. I got a set up with the internet, phone and tv for $150. I'll be paying $75. I really like the phone. I can put unwanted callers on a list that won't allow the calls to ring. Life is much better weeding them out.
I'm trying to figure that out. I can't imagine it would not of you get the 500gig hd console. If I were to get time Warner again. It would only be for the cable modem, and cut DTV. With how roku and other streaming video devices are now, and the content they have it wouldn't bother me to pay $50 a month for fast internet and 20 a month for slingTV, 10 for Netflix, and that's about it. Now it's $50 for slow internet, and 130 for DTV. So, I'd cut my bill by 50% or so, or about $90 a month.
I'd be tempted to give my left you-know-what if I could get 12 meg service. My service is 1.5 down/256kb up. Wife watches Netflix on her iPad, but nobody else can do anything internet related while she's watching.
I guess I was just used to my much much faster twc cable modem speeds at my house before I ditched them for DirecTV.
Comcast is 3/8th of a mile from me. They'll hook me up for just under $9000. Umm, no thanks. AT&T won't turn up new DSL subscribers in my area due to 'being out of ports', even though a couple people around me moved out, houses went up for sale but they were 'still out of ports' when I called. I live in the Bermuda Triangle of technology. As long as the wireless ISP I use stays in business, I'll be good to go.
