Thanks to all. Saw the doctor again today and he likes what he sees and says to continue what I've been doing even if it is slow going. He has some interesting theories on what probably happened last week and they sound reasonable. Says the liklyhood of that happening again is slim. That is fantastic news as it was the absolute worst night of my life.

Bandage is also finally off and now we can see for sure they carved me up pretty good especially compared with the first time but it is understandable when considering what had to be done. The pain is getting less almost daily now and I can finally walk again, albeit with help of crutches. I also drove the car for the first time today as it was easier getting in and out for me. But I did switch and let my wife drive part way home.

Yes, the hip. It was a bad joint so they had to replace it. Not a fun thing for sure.

Looks like you have turned the corner again. Lets hope that is all behind you. Pain, it is wonder sometimes why that doesn't kill ya as much as the problem itself. Hope the rest of your recovery is uneventful.

Dennis, I hope the deer, birds and other wildlife are putting on a nice show for you while you recover. Very best wishes for a full recovery well before winter.

He said I could do it okay so long as I did the splitting vertically....and very, very slow. Figure on finishing last year's wood around January 15, 2016

Said I was lucky to know the correct way of splitting wood otherwise the recovery period would double. Hard to cut without the painkillers but we know the limits.
