I have plans for Ricky...and his pals. Last year's corn wasn't even fenced in and not an ear was touched. To keep Deer away, I have a cfl floodlight on the back of the garage that stays on 24/7 when the corn begins to ripen and that seems to keep them away.
Broke my weed cutter attachment yesterday on my wheel hoe. I got a piece of bandsaw blade that I think I can fix it with. Pics to follow.
After 10ft of rain this season we have to water??? The back garden is doing pretty well for being mostly in the shade. Emma was hiding out by the oak fillers.
Always appreciate your camera guy Terry... he takes good pics everytime. That's one happy Emma right there...
Just in from a field run and no pictures but she's under the garden hose. Coy Crap again!! Some reason she's gotta roll her neck in it?
Yep, both huskies we had would put their necks right in the first dead fish they could find at our old camp. Sweeeet...
Yep, dead fish, poo, whatever........down goes the neck. It's almost like watching them wrestle themselves down with a little throw to the ground. Sort of a neck slam. Dogs are weird.
If you still have the old one, why not take it to someone who can weld it back together? Kind of like what is done when they cut bandsaw blades to length then connect them.
no sign of squash borer yet, squash bugs another story. picked off 4-6 adults and 6 egg clusters. God only knows how many I've missed! got a couple nice zuke and yellow summers. bee activity does seem slow this year? peppers and tomats getting there. got the fall broccoli started. dog days should push production with good warm nites this week. have a day, remember tomorrow is MONDAY?
I *had* to pick my onions today. They were starting to rot in the ground. Zuc plants are rotting....even some of the carrots are rotting...never seen that before. It's a mud bog out there right now. My soils is pretty sandy...can't imagine what clay would be like.
ugggg. So some paranoid idiot called the cops on my helper today who was walking around the farm with a horticultural knife/trowel hanging from his belt. Of course instead of seeing that there was nothing criminal going on and that the object in question was a tool the freaking cops ran his information in a fishing expedition. Nope, he didnt have any unpaid tickets they could get him on. In the name of public safety of course . I'm really pizzed I wasn't at the farm today to witness this. He came in to do me a favor and harvest for the market tomorrow as I wasn't able to get out there today and had to deal with this BS. Thankfully he wasn't given the John Crawford treatment.
I am testing out smaller tomato plants indoors. One variety is a Lizzano. I have been pretty lazy about this. Basically, I stuck a plant in a bucket in front of a south facing window. The plant got to about 3 feet tall so I had to trim it back a little. It is getting bigger than expected so I am not sure if this plant will last.
